  • Baraki,

Marry for happiness, loyalty, honesty, integrity, and someone that matches your faith in your creator. Doesn't matter the ethnicity, the culture you present is the one your kids will present - Pashtun, or not.

Exactly. Being Pashtun is not a requirement, it is a just preference for me. First you look for a good Pashtun, if you don't find one you look for a good Muslim of any ethnicity.. that is always what I have felt even though my parents have always only said "marry a muslim" without any other 'rules'.

Does anyone have access to this? It's a very interesting, and rather important, study.

I also found two matches for my results, one having a shared cM of 46.97 and the other a shared cM of 42.84, anybody want to break down what exactly this means?

                  Congratulations!

Those are rather good matches. Both of them might even be Pashtuns. For comparison, my best match is at 26.59, a White American. I have 6 matches, all of them are either Iranians from Khorasan Province, or White Americans.

Also, those numbers are the actual amount of DNA you share with your matches.

                  • Is Central/South Asian typical for Pashtuns?

Pretty much. For what it's worth, the lowest Central Asian score I've seen for any Pashtun is Adam's 47%, while the highest has been 60%. The lowest South Asian score has been 10%, while the highest has been 30%. The other scores can vary rather wildly. I'm 58% Central Asian, 18% South Asian. I also have less European scores in comparison to Adam, but more Middle Eastern-affiliated components.

                      • Sein, My father's results are in and I will post the Maps soon here.

His mtDNA from his Kharoti Mother came out as H6b.

He has a rather high Central Asian component, 65%.

My cousins results are in too, his paternal ancestry dates back to the Mohammadzai Branch ultimately leading to Durranis, and it is L1c. From the L1 project on ftDNA, it seems many other Popalzai and Durranis are also L1c which might make this the marker for Ahmad Shah Durrani.

                        Update coming soon

Could you explain why the high frequency of L1c in Pashtuns? The other groups in which it is found at high frequency are the Dardic groups, e.g., Nuristanis, Hunza people, etc.

Why do Pashtuns share specific R1a with Kirghiz people?

                            Very fascinating results!

A rather high "Central Asian" score indeed, the highest I've seen yet. This is a good indication that your father's tribe has been quite endogamous.

There seems to be a founder effect happening with certain Durrani lineages. Pashtuns everywhere tend to predominantly R1a1a, with a range of 49% to 70%. Even in Kandahar, most Pashtun males are R1a1a (70%). Yet, groups like the Popalzai and Barakzai seem to be majority L1c, which is quite interesting/unique. Drift is a good possibility here.

not sure about 23andme but on harrapa project most afghans (pashtun and tajiks) clustered where they are geographically located, South/Central Asia
