  • A moment of happiness, Facebook launches its site in Pashto

Assalam-Alaikum, I hope all respected members are in good health.

So I usually never go on Facebook, In fact I don't even have a personal Facebook account. But one thing that stood out to me today in particular upon visiting Facebook was that Facebook has recently launched its site in Pashto as well.

This is huge news for our language. It shows us that our language is important enough that even Facebook and its staff decided to launch their site in our beloved language. By the way, Google has already launched its site in Pashto[Google.af] The fact that Google has recognized Pashto as our sole national language is worth a lot of importance. Google.af takes you straight to a Pashto version of Google.

    Pic attached.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

Because, Pakistan never wanted Pashtu to be recognized on international level. A good example of that would be the punishment of school kids in the heart of Pashtunkhwa (Peshawar) for speaking pashtu? pashto mat bolo! does this rings a bell?
How is this news going to be good news for those who used to say " Pashtu mat bolo".......
Unless they have changed now lol

You mean Afghan news agencies? Try checking the Pashtu websites. The process was long, anyone could contribute to the translation process.
That might be one of the reasons why it went quite, because it was not one of those all of a sudden invention. It took a long time...
You could switch to Pashtu facebook after 40% translation was complete, the parts that weren't translated would appear in English....

We never really grow up, we only learn how to act in public.

If I agree with you we w'd both be wrong.

They've been working on it and I don't think it's complete now either. =/

I helped them.. this is how it works. You set yours to Pashto and then suggest Pashto terms for the words they use, like "Photos, News Feed, Like" etc. And a buncha people do that and then there are many suggestions and from those suggestions you can vote which one is the best.

It's still incomplete though, as you can see here =/

Loook! Instead of chat it says 'Bandaar'!! Sho cute
