So I'm on vacation in Pakistan until early Jan. I just noticed google.com.pk has Pashto, Urdu, and sindhi language options.

I thought it was interesting that it didn't have Punjabi, or Balochi in it. I wonder why. Perhaps Afghanistan making pashto lingua franca gets credit here? But then why is sindhi there?

      Google.af defaults to Pashto.
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

        This isn't new.

The status of both Pashto in Pakistan and Uzbek in Afghanistan are improving.

When you buy a new sim card and want to register it on almost any network in Pakistan, they have 3 options - Urdu, English or Pashto.

And Pashto movies (yes they are terrible but still Pashto) are shown on Emirates flights.

Does it give any language change options?

In Canada it defaults to English, but you can change it to francais. Pak also English can change to those 3 languages.

Acha? I have Zong and they gave the options although once you choose it does just go back to English or Urdu but they do have Pashto speaking staff that can help you in case you really need it - once I acted like I only spoke Pashto and they had no choice lol

Yeah they do send messages in Roman script Urdu most of the time but sometimes also in Urdu script.

BTW few Punjabis would even bother using Punjabi even if it was available - there are some Wikipedia articles but I guess they just don't value their language that much. Its hella annoying that they usurped Urdu and claim it as their own.

Balochi - nobody gives a f*ck about them except the Baloch themselves.

As for Sindhis, they are a proud people but the more educated and vocal ones are the Indian Hindu Sindhis and they generally tend to use the Devanagri alphabet. Sindhis do have linguisitic influence in Pakistan, escpecially Sindh. Even in Karachi almost everyone who went to school had to learn some Sindhi.

Never called customer service so I don't know. I thought you said when signing up you filled a form/put info in a screen and it asked you for your preferred language over there.

Baloch don't even number that many and there's like one 24/7 Balochi channel in Karachi which can't even be bothered to spell properly

Afghan Baloch are not vocal enough

                            Iranian Baloch don't do enough

The Baloch of Karachi have their own problems

Baloch of Turkmenistan are also an oppressed minority

Arabic and Bantuized Baloch of the Gulf and East Africa are too distant and barely retain their language identity.

Check Omani Balochi songs, they can't even pronounce them properly and don't make sense because they don' know what they're saying. Just like the Caribbean Hindi songs - they're too removed from their homeland to understanf them.
