  • how close is pashtun to farsi?

    hello everyone

I'm a native Farsi speaker and like to learn Pashto but wanted to know how close are they? does knowing Farsi help me to learn Pashto?

if you know both language and tell me your experience that would be very helpful

    thanks a lot

I don't have much knowlegde about it, but i don't think very much. I have it as hard to understand farsi as punjabi and urdu. Maybe it depends on geography? The more west they(pahstuns) are located, their pahsto is more similiar to farsi. But i could be wrong.

Knowing Farsi will definitely help because that gives you big leg up in terms of vocabulary. We share a lot of words, and many others are similar with slight differences.

However, they’re quite different grammatically, and Pashto’s grammar is complex. Learning conjugations and grammar will be the most difficult part for you, but if you already speak multiple languages, inshallah that’ll help.

They have a pashto course in rosetta stone and also there are many youtube videos as well. If you google it, I'm pretty sure there are many courses.

But pashto is more difficult than farsi because grammer is more complex.
