  • Any yall know about wanetsi pashto?

    So i was having a conversation with a friend of mine whos from quetta and we were talking about oldest and more original form of pashto and while i was thought it was the kandahari dialect he told me about wanetsi/wanechi(or tarino or chalgari/tsalgari acccording to wikipedia) which is basically a dialect spoken in the harnai and sinjawi area by a small population of the tareen tribes and the little ive read about it says that its so simmilar yet so different from pashto that there are arguments to whether or not it is pashto at all. Anyways there is very little online about it and only wikipedia has a little of the actual dialects words in comparison with kandahari pashto. So yeah any of you have any info on it or heard of it before? I just find it extremely interesting because of how less i know of it

      Just because it is so different and read by a small minority does not make it the oldest or original pashto.

        Well true but it is pretty much said on all of the sources i saw that it is the only dialect closest to how the language originally was. But obviously times chage and now kandahari standard is considered the original but this post was on whether anyone else has any info on it or not

                That's most likely because you are from Peshawar Valley or surrounding areas.
                I had never heard of "pai" until I met Peshawris lol

                  We marwats use word "shawdae" as well as "pai" for milk

                      Do you guys know where the word "pai" came from?

                      In Urdu its "Dhood" and in Farsi "Sheer"?

                        Dude, its a pure Pashto word....infact the more broader usage is "pai".....for example we say Shoday-pai for normal milk and tarway-pai for "laasi" for differentiation between two....and for milk of human-mother we normally say pai, not shoday....

                          I'll add my two cents here;
                          Wanetsi is so much different from mainstream Pashto(be that any dialect), that it can easily be classified as a different language.
                          I don't think there is any proof to show that it is the original dialect.
                          From what little I have read, the original Pashto dialect was the Southern(soft) dialect.
                          Then there are different views.
                          Some say it was the Kandahari dialect, some say it was around Sulaiman mountains(which would make it to be the Zhob area)

                            Original dialect is northern dialect, dude. The truth is, there's little actual research on the dialects... but what evidence there is, points towards "Pakhtun" being the original term.

                            As well, intuitively it makes sense. Given the low amount of research, you can tell just from the variation of language when contrasted with neighboring languages. Northern, or Kheen, dialect does not have any overlap with any neighboring language. Southern, or Sheen, dialect has significant overlap with Farsi.

                              We can't be too sure on which dialect is original, but as Samandri pointed out in a post some time ago , that many words that are considered Persian or Urdu might have actually been Pashto words in the past.He did have some evidence , I don't remember it clearly.I think he gave reference of a book.
