  • Quetta and balochistan pashto

    Salamoona
The northern part of Baluchistan province is populated by our Pashtun brothers.
The dialect spoken there is quite unique also.I recently watched a tv drama from that region, and it struck me that the people of that region use Urdu words in their conversation more than say,the Peshawar region.
Is there any truth to this or merely my flawed observation?
Any Quettawaal Pashtun here who can comment?

Perhaps a singular observation. i have observed the reverse when I was in peshawar recently. Peshawar pashto is riddled with urdu. Quetta too but NOT as much. Peshawar has hindko speakers too. sounded like punjabi with a few pashto words. But as soon as you cross into FATA especially with older people, you begin to hear pure pashto words.
I found Quetta pashto the sweetest in Pakistan.

Torkham rora- The Peshawar pashto does have a lot of Urdu in it,but if you go out of the city into the surrounding rural areas, then the language will be purer. And that was what I was referring to in my original post.
What I said about the Quetta pashto was based on a drama I watched.
I guess the Pashtuns in the rural areas of Baluchistan such as the northern districts outside of Quetta, will speak pure Pashto.Am I correct?

Marwat rora- you are most probably right.Have you heard the Pashto of the Pashtun tribes of Baluchistan,OUTSIDE of Quetta city such as Qila Abdullah,Qila Saifullah,Ziarat,Sherani etc?How is that pashto?

one thing I noticed, that for the word "because" they use the Urdu word " lekin" instead of " kho".
Even I have seen Mahmood Khan Achakzai do that.
Again I reiterate that my observation is just based on tv drama and one or two interviews.

i can't distinguish between them, my observation are based on pashtun community from Quetta in my university. even the baloch of quetta speak more pure pashto than KP pashtun. Quetta pashtun and from the surrounding can read and write pashto too while KP pashtun can't.

All of that Pashto in those areas of Baluchistan is identical to Pashto of Kandahar, Helmand, Uruzgan, Loralai, Pishin, Muslim Bagh, Chaman

This "lekin" is used by Afghan-Pashtuns mostly, just watch their Tv programs. The Achakzais of Chaman are more like those of Kandahar than Zhob or Loralai

Loanwords is one thing, but Bar Afghans use lot of Farsi words in their speech even though pure Pashto words exists for it. For example they say "alaida" (separate) instead of Pashto words "bail" , "Jala" or "yowazay" (also "Goshi" in my dialect").
