  • Dialects of Waziristan

    Bismillah

    As Salaamu 3laykum,

I noticed how I cannot distinguish between different dialects from the region.

Are there any experts who can guide me? I need to know what the difference is between typical Mehsud dialect and other tribes like, Wazir, Dawar and Bittani.

wazir and dawar and maseed and banneesi is different accent but very similar

banneesi and wazirwola: sa ranga yey? same in khost
    maseedwola: cha ranga yey?
means sanga yey in normal pakhto

    banneesi: za keyr ta sa
    wazirwola: za keyr ta dreyma

    maseedwola: kim juyi na yey?
wazirwola/khostwola = kim zay na yey?
means de kum zay yey in normal pakhto

    wazirwola/bannisee/maseedwola: meez talibuni
means mung taliban yo in normal pakhto

    wazirwola/khostwola/banneesi: saalweyr
    maseedwola: chaalweyr
    means salor in normal pakhto
    Good indeed.

    Few Correction

*Dreyma is a banisi people word,in wazirwola we usually use only "sa".Though the Wazir living in bannu city might use "Dreyma".

Banisi use Meez and so does dawar.but in wazirwola "Mizha"

    For running

Dawar and Banisi both use "ar/ra tarap ka" while in wazirwola "ra manda ka".and in normal pashto "oparezha"

Maseedwala is slightly different spoken though Wazirwala,Banisi and dawar dialects are similar.

OP also Posted about Bhittani people

Their dialect is similar to marwat/kundi and much different from dawar or wazir or maseed or banisi

Didnt knew that people of khost dialect is also similar to Wazirwola/Baniswola/Maseedwola.as far as i know the majority of people in khost are mangal.correct me if i am wrong?

I guess wazir, mehsud and dawar speak in similar dialect but bhittanis speak in completely different dialect.
Listen to the pashto of a taliban commander from bhittani tribe.

It is because Bhittani people are lohani tribe pashtun similar to marwat, kundi, gandapur.they are influenced by marwat tribe.marwat is a very big tribe in the region.

Bhittani tribe if i am not wrong are mostly in either Tank or Dera ismail khan not in waziristan.

Dawar,Wazir,Maseed, banisi and as you said khost people dialect is similar because they are all put into the list of karlani pashtun hence Similar dialect.

List of Sub tribes of the 4 super tribes of pashtuns

Search in youtube "Bannu comedy" or "Bannu Funny".

There are many videos with dubbed pashto of wazir/banisi dialect on bollywood movies clip.

This can give you a good idea of how these dialects are

Please make a difference between Dialect and Accent. All these are accents not dialects. Pashto has mainly two dialects hard(Peshawar) and soft(Kandahar). Rest are accents, registers etc.

Accent mainly depends on the region not on the tribe. A Khattak in Bannu, Karak, Nowshar, Swat, Mardan, Dera Islamil Khan will speak differently, according to the accent of the area. A kakar in Kandahar and Peshawar will use the dialect/accent of the area.
