    as far as i know

    kadda means belonging

    Shaza/khaza means wife.

there are other words also used for wife such as "zama korwala" or my wife
korwala doesn't mean wife. that term is used for people that belong to your house.

Back to the Kadda topic. We say "kadda mai kor na wa kra" meaning I moved out from the house but the word is still attached to wife because Pashtuns regard their home as where the wife resides. So if the wife moves, he moves or he cant move unless the wife moves with him. Technically Kadda means wife. In our region we wont say "kadda barawum," this would be incorrect, people would laugh because they would take to mean your packing up your wife. We'll say "lokhay barawum" meaning Im packing my belongings.

Another example would be "Amir Khan kadda se ra doctor te lar ro" meaning Amir Khan went to the doctor with his wife. This would not mean he took all his belongings and children with him to the doctor.
kada and mashuman are both used.
        mashuman hints/means wife and children.

offcourse it depends who is saying it.

For wife word "korwala" is used in respect mode. "kadda" means family. E.g yasmina ye dou kadday che wadu krra ( yasmina has been married to that family).

Reflecting on the meaning of the word Kadda in Pashto, I was surprised when this idea struck to my mind that how the word kadda means both wife and material stuff.

This shows chauvinism and gender discrimination of Pashtuns who consider wife or woman to be just a stuff, an object , a property. a movable property. Why man is not called Kadda? This is too much. we need attitudinal change towards woman to be a complete and equal human being.

I also heard that Kandaharis (and other Southerners) use (for wife) the word مینا .

Another word for a wife (not only in South) is د وړو مور

I am confused with the کډه - I thought that it refered only to a wife, and it is used in singular form, unless someone has more that one wife.
If کډه is refered to a wife and kids, then what form of 'kada' is used? Plural or singular?

                            yasmina,
in reality the word kada is synonymous with the word kor. A mans wife, children and belongings is his home. In our region we don't use the word korwala but since members have inputted on it and say they use it in such a way, it strengthens my argument.
And there is no plural form of kada even if a man has more than one wife since a man can only have one home regardless how many wives he has.

Bobby tells Tony not to insult her to which Tony's implys to him to stay out of it because it is his sister but Bobby responds that "she is my wife, she is my home."

Kindly differentiate house and home. A house is a structure, something material but a home is the people who live in the house and make it a safe and pleasant place to be. While Kadda means both wife and belongings.

Wife is not a stuff, not an immovable pr movable property but an equal human being like husband.

However if Americans use a word wrong or practice something wrong, it does not become standard for us that we also do the same.
