Sorry MsFuteDoc .. I missed that one.
I didn't post any videos .. although there are a serious of introductory videos on Youtube. Someone will have link somewhere.
In the Dars, I focussed mainly on script and getting familiar with it. I did add some audio links to the earlier lessons with translations. As it went on I changed more of the scripts to fit and the source text (that I linked to) and the audio sometimes differed a little.
But for an absolute beginner, I can see it might not be easy. To be honest, if you can follow the script, (Arabic), Pashto, Dari and Urdu are not so difficult even at post-beginner level.
My Pashto reading is mostly headlines, and short pieces of text. I find tiny script in a 300 page novel difficult to focus and concentrate on.
Do you hear the language much, because once you travel this summer and you are surrounded by Pashto, the conversations will slowly come InshAllah.

Yeah i watch those videos on youtube every now and then, but its so scattered around. Yeah i understood the first one you posted, but the others got difficult. I can follow the scripts, but like i said, i am wayyy in the beginning.....i just didnt want anyone to think that i wasnt following and that i wasnt taking the language serious, but i am. Just taking more time and doing it the way i can follow with my level of understanding.Originally posted by tor_khan View PostSorry MsFuteDoc .. I missed that one.

Perhaps the Dars was slightly more specialised ... but what you are saying in understandable, MsFuteDoc. I think that taking at your pace, is fine ... it will come, for you InshAllah.Originally posted by Ms.FutureDoctor View PostJust taking more time and doing it the way i can follow with my level of understanding.
We kind of need to look at some of the other vocab/grammar building threads here. We've got many who are willing to support if it involves Pashto in Roman script, I'm sure of that ...

No ustad wrora, you are doing an excellent job. Your contributions to this thread is greatly appreciated, unfortunetly, i am not up to that level, yet. I am slowly getting there. Learning a language is not easy and takes time. I will contribute more here when i get to this level.

I'm NOT a fan of long posts, and I suspect this one is going to turn out to be one. Apologies in advance.
Politics and Pashtoons go hand in glove, but then so do poets and Pashtoons and the love of the language.
And then there's history. The inspiration for today's lesson comes from somebody who combines all of this. And thank you to PF member, Din for posting this originally in the History section. I'm not able to acknowledge the source of Din's text, suffice to say, that I only present a version of it.
I've selected, primed and edited the first part of the text that Din posted about Dr Kabir Stori. For those additionally interested, I have my own dedication to this brilliant man here.
Please be aware of one thing. The text that Din posted, was, for me, not an easy read. My Pashto is hardly that of scholars. In anycase, I felt I had to change some of this to fit a little with my Yusufzai dialect (though nowadays you could quite safely add Logari to that since I spend alot of my free time with a Pashto-only Logari friend of mine).
Take the spelling for the word Doctor - I have seen it either ډاكټر، ډاكتر orداكتر
I could really do with help with words like that and with كښې/كې and welcome any knowledgable* opinion on this - *also spelt (spelled) knowledgeable (with the e)
{Perhaps I shouldn't complain about Pashto spelling when in last sentence I've already share two examples of English inconsistencies
}
ُُُThat's the easy part - there are words that I don't use and words that appear interchangably in my experience (nwase نوسى / mase لمسى) for grandson for example. I chose nwase** since its closer to how I say it. **There's also nmase نمسی
I had 4 participants last time and as we draw closer to Dars number 10, I feel ready to hang up my mortar board and gown and pass this on. It takes some time on my part to think through the texts and I wish, I wish, I really wish I could add that little extra into this to encourage whole forum participation, because this is our language and we deserve full ownership of it. The trouble with an internet forum is that it's not a classroom and so it isn't the ideal medium in which to explore lots of different learning styles. I recognise that. Perhaps there are some amongst you who can think of another way. For my part, ډیره ډیره مننه because the overall support has been great.
Anyway here's the text:
Questions below:
1. What (a) year was Kabir Stori born in and what (b) was the name of the village in which he was born?
2. Why was Kabir Stori's grandfather popular?
3. (a) What clan/tribe does the family belong to? (b) From where did they originate?
4. Define:
- زوى
- نيكه
- خوېندو او وروڼو
5. Name two other relatives of Kabir Stori and their relationship to him.
Oh, and like last time - can you PM me.
2 Accroding to the txt, he was a tribal elder and was renowned for serving the masses.
3 Mirdad Khel, They are supposed to have originated from Mardan and Swat, though I believe it is the other way round.
4 Son, Grand father, Brothers and Sisters.
5 Elder bro: Wakil Abdul Jalil Malang. Younger bro: Mohammed Naeem Khan.
Is this a quiz or something, Tor Khan Wrora?

One other thing. Shlombay - you're magic. You posted on so many visitor boards, trying to recruit people to take part in the Dars. For the effort, you deserve a badge of your own.

پښتو درسDear Forum Members & Visitors,
Pakhto Dars
د پښتو لسم (۱۰) درس
ګران غړیوال، ډیر ډیر سلامونه
Toloo ta dzma Salaamoona. Just before we begin, a couple of notes.
There have been some positive contributions to the Pashto Language Section and I wanted to offer the space for other contributors to share. So thank you to Osho, Shlombay etc. Also, Osho has requested some assistance with putting together a set of Lessons with scripting and voice etc. Volunteers ...?
Today's Dars is all about the written language and how we can use the Forum to help us with script. I want this to be easy and so your responses may not need to you to type anything at all – all the answers should be possible by copy/paste. The key however, is that we are responding by using Pashto script. Oh, and when posting back to the board, you might want to use text size 4 or 5/right justify, which always appears to be the most comfortable size for Pashto script.
For those unused to writing in Pashto ... how about finishing off with typing your name in Pashto? There are several tutorials on typing – and remember, typed once, you can always copy and paste.
Today's lesson also serves as something of a review, and will give us an opportunity to explore our forum that little bit further. When Admin Khan and I first came up with the idea for forum titles in Pashto, I did an outline translation of the forum titles. I used the terms/expressions that I knew, with some modifications and the headings then changed a couple of times to get closer to the Pashto and so that we have the titles as you see them (other contributors also helped shape this). I don’t insist you use the headings as they appear, for example if you call a photograph an عكس or a تصوير then that is fine too.
Part A
I want to do this in two parts. The first is vocabulary. I will show the English. Contributors show me the Pashto. This list is not exhaustive and is really to get us started so perhaps you can challenge one another with a similiar exercise.
Ready? Using the forum, can you find the Pashto headings for:
- Hujra
- Pashto Language
- New Member
- Science
- Fashion
- Pashtun History
Part B
The second part requires you to read this story here. It’s a bit of light reading and features the wit and humour of one of my favourite characters from story telling traditions - Mullah Nasserudeen (more on my blog). I really like the clever surprises and the annecdotes of these tales and this one is a classic gem. These stories have the added value in that they have made their way into Western story telling and shows that Muslims can be funny, and clever too and that we don't all walk around as if we were permanently affected by grey weather. Thank you Handsome Pashtun for this.
The task is similar to Part A, except this time I’m looking at phrases/and sentences. Read the story and match up the phrase/sentences here. The initial ی is missing, but the rest of the story reads perfectly well. Can you find the Pashto phrases/sentences that match the following?
- The aroma of pulao from a popular shop reached him
- The poor man was surprised
- He said to everyone that the story’s decision would be taken tomorrow
- He met Mullah Nasserudeen
- He told the judge that he was the poor man’s brother
Answers via PM as per the last couple of lessons. Once I've got a few responses, I'll post back to the board.Last edited by tor_khan; 05-22-2010, 03:34 PM.

I am really proud of you who dedicate himself to the teaching of a language about which people say that Pashtana pa har tsah Pashto kawi kho pa pashto pashto na kawi,,,,,,,,,we have honor for all but not for Pashto language. I really appreciate you and friends and who promote Pashto because its a langauge without any court patronage and any material benifits.
I am also specially thankful to you for your assistance in writing Pashto in the Pashto course topic.
These lessons are complementary to that course and that course is complementary to these lessons. I ll copy some parts of these lessons specially for listening comprehension part. Ultimately the purpose is to serve the sweet Pashto.
