Thank you for for all your support and well done to any who completed the previous Dars. Mesbah - thanks for the posting - this will help with letter recognition and phoneme pronunciation.
I know that there are many who wish to contribute - again, I gently encourage you to make the attempt. Pashto is our language and we will become better readers and users of the language with our efforts, InshAllah.
I return to the two character that we were introduced to yesterday - Waghma and Laila and to the remaining part of their conversation. Remember this is the edit version of the dialogue that is available in audio and written form (with English) here: http://gloss.dliflc.edu/products/glo...09_source.html
Here are today's questions based on the text.
1. What is the question that Waghma asks?
2. What are the two items of food mentioned here?
3. What does Laila mean by تا خو هیڅ شی ونه خوړل
4. How do we know that Waghma has enjoyed the meal?
5. Define the following:
i. هو ii. واخله iii. پوخ
6. Copy and paste the Pashto word for "thanks"
Note:Anyone want to organise the next Dars (in the teacher role)?
All they spoke about was dinner and how afghan dinner is so nice.
The text is adapted by me because I wanted to make a precise teaching point rather than present a long list of foods. I've added the questions here to reflect my version of the text. Hopefully, it's a simpler read. The audio however, is still a good supportive resource.
... Anyone willing to have a go at sharing their thoughts about (a couple) of the questions? I know that Mesbah has the heads up here, but she's holding back for a bit to allow other contributors to have a go at answering the questions.
Let me add, that this is a supportive environment and we should have some freedom to make mistakes (me too!). That's how many of us learn.
Download this first:http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...v3-x86-ENU.exeAfter installation go to Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Languages Tab > sign this check box Install files for complex scripts… and click on the Details button, click on the Add button and select Pashto(Afghanistan) in the Input language list and click on the OK button. And then Click on the OK and click on the OK button again. Insert the Windows XP Professional CD and click OK. Then restart the computer. Right click on the (The Start Menu Bar) and select Task bar Toolbar then Language bar. Language bar will be available every where you want to write Pashto select Pashto (Afghanistan) from the language bar. To show the Pashto On-Screen Keyboard (Pashto Keyboard Layout) click on Start > All Programs > Accessories > Accessibility > On-Screen Keyboard.
As for how to type fast in Pashto...I'm guessing you just need practice. I'm horrible at it as well...takes me ages to type up a sentence
Thanks for the input here Sweety, I use the floating keyboard to help - at the very beginning of the thread, I mentioned keyboarding in Pashto for me was a slightly slower process and I don't have the speed as a touch typist - in English there is no need to downwards glance at where the letters are.
I have another laptop with the Arabic keyboard (available in the UAE where I live, but I've yet to come across a keyboard that has the Pashto characters, though I'm sure they will be around).
Anyway, Sweety, thanks for your contributions, once again ...
