Salaam u Alaikum PashtunForum Family,
Firstly a big thanks to all that parctipcated in the last Dars. I hope that I haven't missed anyone - please let me know if I've missed anyone here.
I must confess that Amrikayay Pashtun, "walaka mata pata nishta" stands out as great answer to one of the questions and that really made me smile. Similarly, when Sabrina wrote for Question 4 "I couldnt find it. but I hope to learn", I can only thank you more for making the attempt.
OK, so here's my list of hall of famers: Spogmai, Aseer Jan, Pashtun Queen, Herait Girl, Swat, Dukhtar-e-Kabul, Amrikayay Pashtun, "walaka mata pata nishta", Sabrina, Abdali and Shlombay.

I had one or two other messages, with regards to this, and may have missed something in my Inbox, so if I have - apologies in advance. I can always come back and edit this page.
I'm offering collective feedback/reponses to the questions here:
1. What are فصلونه
A) seasons
2. Copy and Paste the Pashto for "Every season is 3 months long".
B) هر فصل دري میاشتی اوږد وي
3. What phonemes are represented by these letters ځ ړ څ ږ ?
A) I picked these out because they are unique Pashto characters that make our written language easier to share and read.
These are Spogmai's responses based on her dialect, though this may vary according to particular dialect. ځzde, rre ړ, tse څ,gay ږ
4a. What season is پسرلی
A) spring
4b. How is this air described in this season (copy the Pashto and translate)
A) په پسرلی کی هوا ډیره ښه وي. هوا ډیره سړه نه وي
Air is very good and not very cold….
5. What else do we know about spring?
a) کله کله اسمان وریځ وي او باران هم اوریږی
Sometimes it also cloudy وریځ and it is rains باران (in spring)

پښتو درس
Pakhto Dars
د پښتو دولسم (۱۲) درس
Salaamoona Malgaree,
Here's a continuation of the text that we looked at in the previous Dars. The topic, once again is Seasons. The source of this material is
http://gloss.dliflc.edu/products/glo...25_source.html though note I have simplified/re-written. The link however, provides a good listening resource on the topic and all the words here are spoken so we get a chance to make the text/audio connection.
Often with the range of dialectical forms, there are multiple ways of spelling this and so it's a good idea to get used to the various forms of a common word. In this instance, I've tried to keep spellings uniform, though on this occasion, I have changed پسرلی to سپرلی as this is the way I would say it.
1. Find the four seasons mentioned here and copy and paste them with the English translation.
2. Define توده and یخ
3. Find the Pashto words that describe (a) sometimes (b) slowly
4. What does the text tell us about what people do in (a) summer (b) in preparation for winter?
5. Find the two sentences that decribe the relationship between day and night.
As per usual - PMs to me InshAllah.

Feedback - Pashto Dars 12
Friends and fellow Students of Pashto
Pa Bismillah.
For those who have followed the Pashto Dars, you may have noticed how I have tended to look for more responses to be presented in Pashto itself. For me, familiarity with our script is important, because the basic premise that I came with was that many of us had familiarity of the spoken language and needed an opportunity to engage at the text level.
I had many PMs about the difficulty for the last Dars. To be honest, it's never easy to gauge levels - for some the reading/the questions and responding in Pashto will be easy. For others, including me, some passages need re-reading or may simply be not at the right level. I have always said that I too am a student.
In the Technology section of the Forum Members have linked to many online Pashto language/Pashtoon interest resources - I encourage Members to add more to build up our Database of links. This has the advantage of allowing us to explore and engage with more material written in Pashto. Even in English we do not read everything we see, and similarly, if there is a Heading for an Article in Pashto that grabs your attention and you are drawn to read the article, we will, as a result be adding to our reading skills.
I would like to thank Rihana, Deathmatch, Marwat, Spogmai Shaglay, Sabrina, Shlombay, Dukhtar-e-Kabul, Samima and Jasmine for their participation in the last Dars. If I've missed a name, apologies, I'll try to add names as soon as I can when I check back.

I must also thank Sangar for bringing up the issue of keyboarding in Pashto in a post today. I'm happy to support this and for those interested, here are some updated instructions on how to get started. Oh, and remember we have our own PashtunForums Wall of Fame which Members contributed to.
As for the feedback from the last Dars -
1. Find the four seasons mentioned here and copy and paste them with the English translation.
There were some mix-ups here (many of us probably know Jimey/Zamey and Gharmee as winter/summer), but logically, if you knew one, then it was fairly easy to work out the others.
Well done to all, but in particular to Sabrina and Samima who share the following
سپرلی - spring
دوبی - summer
منی - autumn (fall)
ژمی - winter
2. Define توده and یخ
Everyone got that right توده hot یخ cold.
3. Find the Pashto words that describe (a) sometimes (b) slowly
I had various answers, many of them plausible, but Spogmai and Marwat took the examples from the text - کله کله sometimes and ورو ورو slowly.
The next two caused some confusion because they were more detailed answers.
4. What does the text tell us about what people do in (a) summer (b) in preparation for winter?
a) چي هوا ډیره توده شي نو خلګ مجبوراً ډیر وخت په کورنو کښي تیراوي
When (the air) gets too hot, people are forced to spend time indoors
b) خلګ د ژمی تیاري له پاره بعضی شیان تیاراوي
people prepare things for the winter
5. Find the two sentences that describe the relationship between day and night.
In the summer - ورځی اوږدیږی او شپي لنډیږی days get longer and nights shorter, and in the winter ورځي ورو ورو لندیږي او شپي اوږدیږي days slowly get shorter and the nights longer.
NOTE: I'm travelling this summer so may not be at my computer so much. Remember this space is open to any Member who would like to organise a Dars. (I look forward to learning from others!)

پښتو درس
Pakhto Dars
د پښتو ديارلسم (۱۳) درس
سلامونه ګران ملګري
This text comes in two parts today InshAllah. I had many PMs following Dars 12 telling me that it was difficult, so I've adjusted this and simplified it, I hope. Please note that whilst I always edit the text in the Dars, I have decided to keep the spelling of کي (in) as shown here rather than use کښي which is also in frequent use.
May I request that your answers for the first three questions be in Pashto script? (copy/paste if you can)
1. What is the title of the text?
2. What are the two places that are mentioned?
3. What phrases tell usa. that Pashto names are taken seriously?4. Find 3 male names.
b. modern names are the trend in cities?
c. these names are popular because they have good meanings.
5. Find 3 female names.
Usual thing - PM me your responses, InshAllah.

زما ډیر ډیر سلامونه د پښتون فورمز میناوالو ته
Thank you to all who participated in the last Dars, and thank you very much for your patience whilst I was away. In particular, the non-class messages that were sent to my VM and PM spaces asking about me were received very warmly. Your duas, whether here or messaged to me are especially kind. Ameen.
I should apologise for allowing the gap between the answers coming in and the feedback to stretch over a couple of weeks, but as you will have realised I had a quiet few weeks whilst I was on vacation, though, I did make it my business to look check on the forum as often as possible.
Of course, I was unable to moderate as much or feedback to the Dars section, but kept the candle burning with a couple of posts to the board in general.
Anyway, I've always maintained and continue to say, this space is yours and anyone who would like to organise a Dars is most welcome - I am happy to support and of course, would not mind the opportunity to take front seat as a student in someone else's class.
The feedback to participant's responses is shown here. Thanks to all who took part. Give me a couple of days, InshAllah, and I will organise another Dars, but of course, if someone has a burning desire to share a short piece of text and write up some questions to go with it, this is your very own space.
Feedback
In general, most found this text easier than the one from Lesson 12.
Question 3 perhaps caused the widest responses and much of it came from the fact that all the responses for Q3 were contained in one paragraph. For some it was easier to quote the paragraph. On the whole though, the question was looking for phrase responses rather than block quotes. Especially since I had asked for the responses to be presented in Pashto, I can see why this may have happened.
A reminder of the questions and text:
پښتو نومونه
په افغانستان او پښتونخوا کي پښتو نومونه يو ډول نه دی . په ښارونو کي عصري نومونه زيات رواج لري . لکه په کابل کي ځينې کورني چي مورنۍ ژبه يي پښتو هم نه ده د خپلو ماشومانو د پاره پښتو نومونه خوښوي.

1. What is the title of the text?
2. What are the two places that are mentioned?
3. What phrases tell usa. that Pashto names are taken seriously?4. Find 3 male names.
b. modern names are the trend in cities?
c. these names are popular because they have good meanings.
5. Find 3 female names.
Swat
Whilst you said you were unable to find 3a, the responses, in general, were correct.
Samima
Again, missing response to 3a, but correct all round.
Afghanmeansdanger
Q3 - didn't quote the phrases, but referred to the paragraph in general. Overall similar response to the ones sent in by Nazia and Jasmine (they both quoted the Pashto).
Chino
Q3a - part of this answer was included in the following two answers
Aseer Jaan
Q3 - Clear understanding of where the answers were, but not selectively given. You wrote, "The entire first paragraph elaborates on that."
Spogmai Shaglay
Q3b - You expressed some doubt about your response which was:
لکه په کابل کي ځينې کورني چي مورنۍ ژبه يي پښتو هم نه ده د خپلو ماشومانو د پاره پښتو نومونه خوښوي
Jasmine & Nazia
Response as shown here:په ښارونو کي عصري نومونه زيات رواج لري . لکه په کابل کي ځينې کورني چي مورنۍ ژبه يي پښتو هم نه ده د خپلو ماشومانو د پاره پښتو نومونه خوښوي.
Everyone was able to indetify the title of the text, quote two places mentioned and find 3 male, 3 female names.
To clarify any misconceptions with Question 3a-c, consider the following possibilities:
3. What phrases tell usa. that Pashto names are taken seriously?
په افغانستان او پښتونخوا کي پښتو نومونه يو ډول نه دیb. modern names are the trend in cities?
په ښارونو کي عصري نومونه زيات رواج لري
c. these names are popular because they have good meanings.
دا نومونه ځکه زيات دي چې ښه مانا لري
