  • Pashto Learners' Blog - د پښتو زده کونکی بلاګ

د پښتو زده کونکی لپاره یو بلاګ۰

A blog set up by the Transparent Language people. Not bad for Pashto learners.

From the point of view of the person who has been learning Pashto for few years, who knows a little on the issues of linguistics and foreign language teaching, I can say that there are errors and inconsistencies.
But of course, every effort to promote Pashto language is a positive thing.

^I did notice the inconsistencies. For example, even on the latest entry غیرت is not not spelt the same in the body text (actually, it's an error). That said, in my opinion, a blog like this helps with the promotion of Pashto, and awareness is certainly a positive.

Let's see the Postposition in Pashto post. For sure Pashto prepositions are missing, because usually, combination of pre and post positions are used in the function of English prepositions. Of course, in colloquial language they are often dropped, but they should be mentioned.

        Look at this example:
"Lapaara (لپاره) = for da sta lapaara day. (دا ستا لپاره دی.) This is for you" Taking into account English translation, I would rather say "daa de tasu lepaara day" or "daa de taa lepaara day" Additionaly, lenght of vowels in English writting is marked randomly.

        In this exmple
"Ta nagde (ته نږدې) = near khaar ta nagde osaigam. (ښار ته نږدې اوسیږم.) I live near the city" only 'ta' is postposition, 'negde' is an adverb.

        Smilar situation in this example:
"Khowata (خواته) = towards zamaong khowata raaza. (زمونږ خواته راځه.) Come towards us." Only 'ta' is postposition, 'khwa' is not a postposition. It is a noun.
        etc, etc...

Perhaps from the perspective of a native speaker such erors could be taken as insignificant, but for someone who learns Pashto they could be very confusing. Unfortunately, teaching foreign languages, despite the best intentions, is not always easy.
