Pashto in India

Interesting on many levels. She wants to protect the status of Pashto and establish Pashto as a language that can be studied in India. I admire her making a real effort to keep the conversation going in Pashto. She is Hindu and therefore competes for multiple identities, and to say she is a couple of generations on, big salute.

There are alot of indian muslims of putative Pashtun descent, moreover if Pakistan wasn't created, NWFP would've been part of India by now... Yes, Pashtuns in Afghanistan don't like Pakistan, but it would be a nightmare if a massive superpower like India had NWFP. The creation of Pakistan is slightly good, not great, but atleast better then Pashtuns subjugated under Indian Hindu Tyranny.

Whats make you think it would have been part of India? surely if adur rahman hadn't signed that treaty that gave the rights to NWFP to the british it would have been part of Afghanistan. Just imagine if thousands of pashtuns would have revolted and protested against that.

No, India would've sent 100 000 troops to heavily supress the pashtun rebellion. Think about it, India would've had 1.4 billion people, and become a superpower, what would mere pashtuns do about it. Morever, it pashtuns revolted again, India would've stormed NWFP and behead alot of pashtunmen, massacre Peshewar and establish Hindu settlers. Yes, PAkistan is both Good and Bad for pashtun people simultaneously. We need Pakistan to prevent India from becoming a tyrannical dictatorship, cause if Islamabad get's captured by India, Afghan will have to fight in an endless battle for NWFP between india, eventually, India conquers Afghanistan, end of story.

Look at Uyghurs in Xinjiang province, they are Turkic people in Chinese dominant country. you would've imagined PAshtuns, and Eastern IRanian people under the dictatorship in a predominantly dravido-indo-aryan speaking nation called Hind-jew-stan.

Your forgetting how bad the british raj were defeated in Afghanistan. Half those soldiers on the squdrant were ethnic Indians. Pashtuns would fight to the death to protect NWFP from foreign invaders or any province for that matter. Pashtuns were doing the head choppings in india when the Durrani Empire ruled half of india and hopeless indians couldn't do anything about it. Your post was implying that pashtuns from those areas are weak when our history disagrees with this.

Are Muslims or Buddhists or other non-Hindu religions suppressed in India? Are Muslims barred from politics? What would India gain from taking Pashtun lands?
