  • Pashto Bilingual Primer

The Pashto Academy of Peshawar University of Peshawar has published a Bilingual Primer, an illustrated book aimed for non-Pashto speakers and foreigners to learn Pashto from. The beautiful book contains a lot of activity based information for learning the Pashto language. It has made the job easy and quicker.

The book is now online & can be viewed on the following URL:

Book looks nice but I have few remarks.
Names of nouns should be given together with grammatical gender.
List of verbs in infinitive form is of little use as long as stems in present tense are not given (past stems would be usefull too especially that some parts of book refers to the past tense)
I wouldn't start talking about past tenses without explaining the issues of ergative cnostruction and transitive verbs.

In my opinion Pashto is too gramatically complex language to be taught superficially.,

It's not my intention to sound like an expert on Pashto because I am far from this. I've learnt Pashto from many books written in 5 languages. In my opinion the best books to learn Pashto were written by foreigners. Maybe because native users seldom realize which linguistic phenomena are important for those who learn the given language as a totally foreing language.
I think I know grammar and linguistic issues very well, including Polish grammar, and I know I would be a poor teacher of Polish language.

Sokainwaal, are you one of authors of this book? Or did you contribute in any way to writting this book?

Agree with you, no i am not the author of this book. Currently i have developed the website for Pashto Academy, and this book was published by them that's why i wish to share with PF friends if they want to read/download. Furthermore my mother language is Pashto but not too much expert in translation or some thing like that as you describe very well. My field of interest is web/computer but love to promote Pashto.
