  • Adjectives/adverbs in comparative form

Could you give me more examples of adjectives/adverbs in positive and comparative form created by repetition? Another question is if the superlative form can be created in the same way?
So far I know only 2 examples and need more...
Please write your examples in Pashto script (and English transliteration).

    My examles:
    ورو - slow
    ورو ورو slower
ورو ورو ورو - the slowest???

    قرار - calm, quiet
قرار قرار - calmer, quieter? etc?
(not sure if the second example is correct)

I didn't even know that the comparative degree could be created using repetitions in Pashto, though I have heard the term ورو ورو before. Please share the information you have on this subject, Yasmeenaah (if possible, of course ).

According to my book the preposition تر and the pre-postposition له ... نه are used to show adjectives in the comparative degree. E.g.:

هغه جينۍ تر هغې بدرنګه ده
That girl is uglier than her.
Regarding the use of adjectives in the superlative degree, I don’t think it is possible to use repetitions. The comparison is made using the adjective ټول, according to my book. E.g.:

د هغه په ټولو زده کوونکو کې کوم يو هوښيار دئ؟
Of all his students which one is the smartest?

هغه هلک تر ټولو هوښيار دئ
That boy is the smartest of all.
I can send you more examples if you need.

I don't know other examples, that's why I asked here. I know that you can use repetition only to some adjectives/adverbs

Hehe, sorry for coming across as a smartass, I was genuinely interested in any other examples you might have had.

Did you decide to through with the order from Interlit btw?

Check your email Yasmeenaah, but disregard the bit about the Interlit website. I just checked their website and it seems to have undergone a complete overhaul. I see they also have "A Dictionary of Spoken Pukhto" back in their catalogue (amazing book if you're a student of the NE dialect).

Yes, prices have gone up since I bought my books...I got the bundle for $75 and now it's $85. Economic crisis?

Ah, so you guys use Speaking Afghan Pashto? It is quite helpful at times, I also have the Dari one by the Interlit foundation, good stuff.

                      Addition:

I have also noticed a few spelling errors in the book, but this is probably only in the edition I have, as it is an old one.

If you post them I could compare with the new (third) edition.
