Both forms mean the same, both are correct and as personal pronouns can be used interchargeably.

^ Not exactly, according to my textbook دوی is used when "they" are nearby while هغوی is used when "they" are far away:

All my books say that دوی is correct, my professor says that both forms are correct. I trust my professor, especially that Pashto doesn't have linguistic norm.

Following your book how would you say: they bought flowers? I mean what form of personal pronoun would you use?

It depends, are "they" standing right next to me or are "they" not nearby?

If "they" are nearby: دوی ګلان واخيستل
If "they" are not present: هغوی ګلان واخيستل

By the way Yasmeenaah, sorry if I'm coming across as nitpicking. I am not saying you are wrong, I am simply supplementing with the information and understanding I have. No doubt the textbook is idealizing to some extent and you should of course follow your professor.

Hey, we are here to share our knowledge and I like your remark Plus it's nice to know that someone reads what I write here and corrects it.

My question was to know what form of pronoun would you use if subject wasn't specified. Habit is what leads to making linquistic norms...

In that case I guess I would use هغوی. Perhaps native speakers of this forum could enlighten us as to which pronoun they use?

doey means when you talk about people next to you.

hagoie is when they are far, where im from we say -thay- haghey

                              its like the english
                              these people - da khalek
                              those people - hagha khalek

but when you say them than you use two types one is Doey=when people are close to you Haghoey = when people are far
