I do agree that Pashto doesnt have an enough status in Afghanistan. But to be honest, there has been some changes from lets say 30 years ago. My father graduated from Nangarhar University, during that time, the undergraduate students were studying in Dari and English, and the medical students were studying in mostly English. But now, its Pashto and English. There is a high school near Chilseetoon district of Kabul, i forgot the name of it, but anyways they have opened the same classes for Pashto native speakers....whereas before it wasnt available.

Yeah at one point Nangarhar University was in Dari, i think when it just opened or something like that. So when my father was there in the early 80's, Pashto courses there was very less. But yes, now its totally different.
But look at our tvs now....before Pashto media did not exist. I remember when we first bought our Afghan satellite tv about 8 years ago, there was only Ariana Tv and Ariana Afghanistan both Dari channels; now there is Lemar, Shamsad, Payam-E Afghan (many of its talk shows are only in Pashto). It is getting somewhere slowly, but not enough. And the reason is, Pashtuns themselves have to make themselves active in it. Now on Sundays or Saturdays on Noor Tv (based in California) have Pashto lessons on tv.
Btw, in Kabul, i bought a Mullah Nasruddin book (where all the original jokes were in Dari), they had made copies of it in Pashto...i will see if i can find it.
Also if you notice, many commericals on Afghan channels have two versions of their commerical, both and Dari and Pashto......were as before this never even happened. There is one of Khyber Bank Commerical....the made it in both Pashto and Dari...and they show it one after another, not excluding either one.
But, dont take this into exaggeration....its something that has been happening slowly, but to be honest not quite enough.Last edited by Laila; 07-13-2011, 04:35 AM.

Ha ha this reminds me....there is a show on Ariana (Afghanistan based), and it has this comedy show...its called like Zarabeen lala or something like that. One guy is a Pashto speaking from possibly Shamali and the other man is a Farsi speaking Uzbeki (i think he looks Uzbeki-ish). Anyways, its a quite hilarious comedy show. One man speaks in Pashto the other replies in Dari, not giving up on their own languages. But they understand each other so well, its hilarious
it comes on Thursday or Fridays after 6:30

Exactly! I appreciate their attempts. Just look at the Shabab brothers, both are Farsi speaking Panjshiris, but sing beautifully and naturally in Pashto. Take others for example, Farhad Shams (sings awesome old Pashto ghazals from Sarban and Nashenas), Jawid Sharif (has a couple mast Pashto songs), Seeta Qasimi (a Kabuli girl), and so many more.Originally posted by afgpower View Postalso many farsiwans have many pashto songs which is also very good.
Btw, word on the street is that Mangal is ethnically Tajik, but since he is from Laghman (Pashtun majority) its not surprising.

Dari is a beautiful language... but i do agree, pashtoons should not completely disown their own language and start conversing in any other language.
Pashto should be very important to pashtoons... but i would encourage them to learn Dari, as i would encourage the Dari zubans to learn pashto. its good to learn different languages... and Dari and Pashto are official languages in our country. everyone should know..
