True Laila. Actually, finding it a bit surprising. Since, to my kinda multi-lingual up-bringing (Pashto, Urdu, English & somewhat Punjabi) never actually understood when i'm using what language or words from exactly which language. So I thought there is actually something called as totally pure pashto and Urdu is actually a pick'n'mix of some different languages.

              Few sub-questions:
              1. Is it "shista" or "shaista", unless "shaista" is an Urdu word, in fact?
              2. "Ugly=badrang", then whats the spelling for "cucumber's" Pashto word, baadrang??
              3. "they are are friendly = thew sha indiwalan de". is it "thew" or "thwee/thuee"?
              4. "Green=zarghun & Blue=shin". Good add-on to my knowledge that zarghun=green, but why do we call green tea as "shna chai"? And also, "blue = obee", is it "obee" or "aabee", water-like, also gets me curious about the origins of the word "aabee", Persian??
              5. Light = Kham, "Tor-kham"!?
"Dark = Taiz", any connection with the Urdu word "taiz"? which means fast, as in urdu its "gehra" for dark.
"shade =kisam", again, any connection with the urdu word, "kisam" which actually means, "type". And, btw, what "shade" means here, in this post's context.

ps. I'm not bringing Urdu stuff here for the sake of it or cause I'm from Pakistan, but since Urdu is derived from several languages, including Pashto & Persian, so trying to understand the meaning & backgrounds!

Thanks a lot & well done for posting sort of stuff, very helpful!

[4. "Green=zarghun & Blue=shin". Good add-on to my knowledge that zarghun=green, but why do we call green tea as "shna chai"?[/QUOTE]

Chai (چای) is in masculine, plural form so shna (شنه) is the adjectives shin (شين) in masculine plural form.

Another opinion on naming conventions for blue/green. Note that the shared use of a common word (sheen) is not entirely unique to Pashto, but shared across many other languages that have just single word for blue/green.
