  • [Article] Obstacles to Loy Afghanistan

Following groups of Pashtuns of Pakistan are hindrance in path of loy Afghanistan.
1- Feudals, nawabs, malaks and khans of khyber Pakhtunkhwa, FATA and Balochistan: They were ok with British and now they are ok with Pakistan. Their interests lie with Pakistan .Forexample khan of meena khel in my district , anwar kamal khan marwat. His father was speaker of national assembley of pakistan. His brother is a political agent. Another khan of my district, khans of ghazni khel, the saifullahs, who are big names in pakistani politics but they strongely opposed renaming of NWFP.
2- Pashtun business community: they dont want their businesses to be disrupted and as most of their businesses are linked with rest of pakistan. Forexample malak imran of our area has more than 300 tankers who are active from khyber to karachi. Or haji kabir of my area who has five star hotel in lahore, the famous ambassador hotel. Such businessmen are more than happy in pakistan.
3-Pashtuns in beaurocracy and army: if such families are part of power structure of pakistan then it means they have zero percent inclination towards loy afghanistan.Infact they would actively oppose it.
4-Docters and engineers: These people are insensitive about loy afghanistan because their jobs are tied to pakistan. Destination and dreams of such professionals is not afghanistan, it is westren countries.
5- Teachers: in bangladesh freedom movement teachers played an important role by turning minds of students against pakistan. They preached bengali nationalism to their students, those students play pivotal role in freedom movement. Here in pakhtunkhwa school and college teachers are from middle class and have their own daily life problems...they are doing their duty and are working day and night with tuitions to make money. I am surprised why afghanistan and india never poured money to these teachers for "brainwashing" kids.
6- Politicians: Those pashtuns who are participating in politics for loot can never think of joining politically unstable and poor afghanistan...
7- Religous people: They are worried about whole muslim uma and they discourage ethno-centric thinkings and approachs . Their sentiments for afghanistan are purely on the basis of islam. And they are strongest supporters of pakistan and would always rush to maintain its integrity, e.g jumat-e-islami, JUI, tablighi, pirs etc. It is note worthy that Jumat-e-islami opposed renaming of NWFP. All of the political religous leaders have ties with intelligence agencies of pakistan.
8-Middle class: They are worried about daily life problems like rooti, kaprra and makan. They dont want any kind of crisis to happen which would further disturb their already disturbed lives. They are crippled by load shedding, price hike, taxes, uemployement etc, large incentives especially those which solve their above mentioned problems, are needed to motivate them for cause of loy afghanistan.
9: Poor: They are trying to survive, they cant afford to think about complex political issues

it seems you are making things up to support your own theory.

I just give examples from my area as feudals, khans, businessmen, teachers, docters, beurocrats etc are from all parts of KP. I have no right to give examples from other areas though i could have.
These are my point of views ,you have choice to 1-agree with it, 2- do not agree with it.

This is not really an 'article' in the sense of it being an essay or a fully developed piece of research. You could, however, develop it into something that might fit that with fuller structure that was referenced. The points you raise are a good starting point in understanding why the nationalist sentiment is weak amongst Pashtuns in Pakistan.

I am interested in Point 5 specifically. We all tend to understand teachers/schools as being agents of change, but remember in almost every society teachers are expected to follow a prescribed curriculum that is pro-state. This is even truer for a place like Pakistan where the public school system is chronically weak and where 'free' thinking in education is generally discouraged even in the private sector.

The closest accessible thing that Pashtuns have to an 'alternative' education system is the madrassah system, that too, with very mixed outcomes and opinions.

          .
You are right that teachers have to follow a prescribed curriculum , but in strict sense it applies mostly to science subjects and maths. In english, urdu, islamiyat and Pakistan studies he can describe his personal opinions about topic and deliever the lecture with his own explanations. Forexample there is topic in pak studies about afghanistan-pakistan relationships, the topic describes that afghanistan was the first country who oppose UN membership of pakistan, and time to time afghanistan has tried to raise pakhtunistan issue. The book doesnt explain the reasons behind bad relationships between countries..our teacher was a nalaiq person, he just told us to cramme the topic...but if teacher has separatist motives, he can describe durand line and pakhtunistan issue and can install anti-pakistani sentiments into raw minds of school students...students at this age absorbs every kind of words from teacher...there are various topics about herioc events of 1965 war in urdu, a teacher can tell them the real facts and outcome of war and he can tell them about rapes and killings of bengalis by pak army..
Madrassas are useless, you have to learn there like parrot with no thinking. And topic is limited to islam and it cant be used for propaganda. In our areas the mentally dull, low IQ children are sent to madrassas for ilam when they fail several times in school.
One of my kiliwal who was once naishai bhangi charsi and was involved with a boy, went to madrassa, completed 8 darjas and is now an aalim and has beautiful beard...this is situation of our madrassas.

I have had discussion with friends from Pashtunkhwa that came from different social backgrounds and have pretty much gotten the same response. If looked at from a logical perspective, their concerns at the time are valid. Afghanistan with a strong central government and economy will have much more attraction than at its current state.
