  • Da Khushal Baba Poetry

    AoA wroono khwayndo, mayano!

I am gonna start this thread by posting the Kalam of Khushal Khan Khattak.

It is gonna be random and it is gonna be mostly in Roman script (sadly).

Unless Tor Khan OR Pukhtun Yusufzai can teach me how to write Pushto Script.

    Thanx.

Post one in the history thread so I can see who he is and post his poems here.
      Thanks.
Nice suggestion James! you are right, an intro would be nice!

      however, .........

well James, I can see from the name already and from your post that you actually do not know anything about KKK?!!!

however, to post the intro of someone as KKK himself just so we know who he is, and that too on a Pushtun forum, would be like:

in an English poetry club, asking the participants, who Shakespeare is?

      OR

in New York standing on the Manhattan Bridge asking people where Wall Street is an so on!

      though for your sake
James, here is a helpful link:

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khushal_Khan_Khattak

and by the way, I've got his nick because I am his actual DNA linked grand son.

I wonder what James's reply will be like !

            Apologies brother!

It is new and therefore difficult for me to write in Pushto Script. I am working on it, please be patient with me.

            I hope you understand.

            Take care.

And here it is, Khoray, just for you.

I thought it would be best to begin with somethings sad, something that represents our history. Our history is full of grief and lamentation. It shows the struggles of our forefathers. The martial people who never bow down to anyone. To reflect this, I found this beautiful piece. I hope Tor Khan can explain it the way he does best.

^It would be a good idea, if you can post an English translation with it.
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

                -Ferishta, 1560–1620

I'd love to, but honestly, I can translate only parts of it. I can completely understand the meaning but it would require someone as Tor Khan to completely do this satisfactorily since for example I dont know what the words like "Zaaghan" and "Kaandey" mean. I hope Tor Khan does help me out here.

Translation into English is welcomed by any member here, if you wanna have a try at it, PLEASE DO SO!

However if it stays untranslated then I will try it out eventually
