      Aminullah Zmaryalai zok wo?

He was born in times, when Afghanistan was constantly threatened by agressive colonial powers, that were fighting for pole position in Central Asia, while most Afghan Amirs (with an exception of Loy Ahmad Shah Baba Durrani) simply ignored the importance to Pashto language. There was no institution or movement that would be thinking about developing Pashto literature, history and other sciences. The language of Afghans didnt progress for many years.

Arwashad Shaghely Aminullah Zmaryalai was born in Kabul in the year 1895 to an influental Barekzay family. His father Ali Mohammad Khan Barekzay migrated from Kandahar to Kabul. His forefathers were scholars and belonged to a small educated elite in Kandahar always doing khidmat for Pashto. Shaghely Z. was in love with Pashto language since childhood and he was cultivating und supporting Pashto his whole life. By finishing 'Habibiya' high-school in Kabul, he became a teacher in province school in Paktya by the age of 20.

He then attended military and became commander of the Shinwar Light Artillery Forces in Ningarhar, where he took part in the 3rd Anglo-Afghan War. After gaining independence for his country Shaghely Z. was granted with an outstanding reputation for being a fearless artillerist and was medaled by Shah Amanullah for bravery.

Later he became the head of Afghanistans intelligence service and minister of defense.
He was a member of Wesh Zalmyan, the head of Pashto Tolana, he was teaching literature at Kabul University, writing books and poetry.
Shaghely Z. was in fact one of the main contributors to Pashto - a 'Pashto Khedmatgar'.

He was a close friend of Benawa and Ulfat. In his poems he is teaching to love, independence, Pashto and Pashtunwali, sciences, equality, freedom, brotherhood, children etc.
Unfortunately he is almost unknown to the young generation of Afghans. His works are masterpieces of Pashto literature and very hard to find.

Shaghely Z. died in the year 1982.

      A list of his books:
      1) Pashto marghalerey - collection of landay and ancient peotry
      2) De Asharo Diwan - a collection of his own poetry
      3) Pashto mataloona
      4) Pashto Qara'at
      5) Pashto Keeley
      6) De yawe pashtane meli ehsasat
      7) Pashto zenga wurwozoo?
      8) De Pashto zhebe philaloozhee ao pakhwanee adabyat
      9) De Pashto Adabyato ta yawa katena
