    "Another Horrific Scene"

Last night as I glanced towards the television screen
my eyes witnessed yet another horrific scene

Dead bodies among flames that reached towards the sky
as helpless onlookers could do nothing but cry

Before the smoke even settled, the media had proclaimed
that yet again it was the Taliban to be blamed

Nobody here knows anymore what's true and what's a lie
we only know we're tired of seeing Pashtuns die

Wow, those were some very powerful, human-lifting words. I loved it, I really did.
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

    -Ferishta, 1560–1620

Thank you all for the nice comments. They mean alot to me

Alokozai I am not skilled enough to give much advice on writing poetry. If you have a specific question though I'll try to answer Maybe you should start a thread asking questions that all the members who write poetry could try to answer for you This particular poem, even though it is very short, took me a few days to finish because I came up with the end a couple of days ago and then yesterday I came up with the beginning. I am rarely satisfied with any of my poems. I once read that "A poem is never finished, only abandoned" and for me I find that to be very true

That's a very good idea. Or we could have a thread here giving people specific topics to write poems on and those who are teaching it will give constructive criticism if the poem can be bettered.

The saying that a poem is never finished is SO true! I never read my poems after I've shared them with others because I find faults in them and then go, "OH MY GOD! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Or I think of a better way to say something and I feel so empty then! :|

        So I understand your feelings.

A teacher of mine once told me of an Indian song that took the lyricist exactly ten years to write! The story of the film had been discussed with the potential actors and actresses, directors, producers -- everyone. But the lyricist was like, "Give me time for this song. I don't know how much time." He wrote parts of the song, put it on a shelf, and he said he coudln't think of something to add to it but he KNEW he'll come up with something really good that'd be worth the time they all waited for. Finally, ten years later, he was like, "Okay, I'm done." And by then, everyone had gotten older and all, but it didn't matter.

I forgot which song and which movie it was for, but he said the movie was very nice and was recommending it to me. I'll have to ask him about the title.

But, of course, ten years isn't normal or usual. Some take a mere ten minutes, others take hours, others take weeks, and others might even take months. The subject of the poem may have a lot to do with it, as does whatever inspires the poet. If there's no inspiration, it might take a long time.

You can never write a poem without some solid inspiration or feelings.

You lose yourself to your feelings and a masterpiece like this comes out.

              Just follow your instincts.

lewani. keep the good work up.
