I have always wondered what made muslims write great peotry in the past? be it in the Middle east, Persia, Subcontinent etc... There were many great muslim poets in all these areas. What is the reason for this exactly?
Poetry is praised in the hadiths. Its a form of self expression which gained importance in Islamic lands because other art forms such drawing human figures and most music is forbidden. There are many other reasons as well such as no need for special tools and instruments and so on.
