Poetry session held to
promote peace in Khost

KHOST CITY (PAN): A poetry session was held in southeastern Khost
province on Monday with the support of the United Nations Assistance
Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), officials said.
Among others, several government officials and noted poets from the
province attended the event, jointly organised by the Ministry of
Information and Culture and UNAMA.
Director of Information Muhammad Amin Shah told Pajhwok Afghan News
conveying the message of peace to people through poetry was the main
purpose of the gathering.
"It was a good poetry session and if the government and the United
Nations pay attention to such programmes, peace could be restored in the
province," said a young poet, Lahore Abid.
Governor Abdul Jabbar Naeemi, addressing the session, said hectic peace
efforts had been made in the province during the last few months. The
campaign would continue, he promised.
"Many tribes have settled their disputes over land, hills and jungles and
militants handed over their weapons to the Disbandment of Illegal Armed
Group (DIAG) for peace in the province," he said.
