its really testing your patience to cook this Chana Dal Halwa....it takes so long to get roasted....thanks for the recipe Shehram...
i also have a Moong Dal Halwa recipes which eaten in winter......i amposting the recipe... but again roasting the dal need patience and also generous amount of fat (pure ghee)...
Moong Dal Halwa
PREPERATION TIME: 10 mins.
COOKING TIME:40 mins.
SERVES: 4 to 6
INGREDIENTS:
Yellow moong dal 1 Cup
Milk, warmed 1 Cup
Sugar 1 ¼ Cups
Khoya ¾ Cup
Cardamom Pd. ½ teaspoon
Saffron strands few
Ghee 6 tablespoon
FOR GARNISHING:
Almonds 2 teaspoon
Pistachios 2 teaspoon
METHOD:
Soak the dal in water for 3 to 4 hours. Drain and grind to a coarse paste using very little water. Prepare sugar syrup of 1 string consistency with 1 ½ cup of water. Dissolve saffron in 1 tablespoon of warm milk and keep aside. Melt the ghee in a broad non-stick pan. Add the moong dal paste and stir the mixture continuously on a low flame till it becomes golden brown. This needs time and patience. Do not rush through this step.
Add in the warm milk and sugar syrup and cook, stirring continuously till the halwa is of dropping consistency. Add khoya and cook till it dissolves. Add cardamom pd. and mix well. Garnish with almonds and pistachios.Last edited by Guest; 08-30-2010, 12:21 PM.

You sure about that? I've tasted moong daal halwa, but I am yet to see a recipe of it. I prefer other types of halwa over moong daal or daal though. They have less sugar for my liking.

Pakistanis are degraded so frequently by naming as Daal khors that it seems Afghans have never seen daal in their whole life.
But fact is in my university life, i saw Afghans eating daaluna manytimes

Peghor from you, despite the fact that you know what a peghor means to a Pakhtun. Come on Brother. I don't intend to start a fued with you or go into a debate, but you say it as though Afghans get no ill treatment from the other side of the border. As if our complex matters have been resolved that we come down to arguing such inane things. Our future lies in forgiveness, holding hands and unity, not grudges, vengeance and rivalry. My intentions are not to disappoint.Originally posted by Son of Mountains View PostIts a peghor from me

Pakistanis should stop whining all the time about others, if you look in Pakistan itself you have pashtuns laughing at punjabis and calling them daal khors...so how ironic that now pashtuns in Pakistan seem to be offended by this term. They do everything bad themselves and then complain about others.
One pashtun i knew in Peshawar was telling me oh the Afghans are involved in crime, there is a lot of bad stuff going on related to Afghans. I said ok firstly Afghan is a big community, you gonna get bad people amongst them that is natural!!!
Then i said most of the bad stuff your own people do. In sialkot did Afghans butcher those kids? Millions of things Pakistanis do which is worse, it is like a criminal telling another criminal why u doing crime

Ok guys dont get political here.
Pashtuns in pakhtunkhwa eat dhaal.....this is a fact.. The most common dish of poor is dhaal...and most of the pashtuns are poor. Though pashtuns desire the meat most, but they cant afford it to eat frequently.
In all hotels of pakhtunkhwa, the two magor dishes are presented, dhaal and lobia.
In all hostels dhaal is one of magor dish (saifullah can confirm it)
we pashtuns of pakhtunkhwa are dhaalkhor...i am proud of dhaal which is cheap source of protien.
If afghans dont eat dhaal, may be it is not produced in their barren country. "bandar kia janay adrak ka swad"

Well, according to some, the word has negative connotations. The reply, on my part, was necessary. I apologise though as I had no intentions of disappointing anyone.
