  • Pashtun dishes?

Being so emerged in the Indian subcontinent...do we actually have our own dishes that we are known for? I can't cook even if my life depended on it...but it would be good to know if we have a speciality aside from different variations of kebobs. I do know our food is heavily influenced by the Indian and Persian cultures.

I'm not quiet sure about the origins of Afghan dishes, the culture in the South-Asian region is so intertwined, I think it is impossible to draw lines.. but here are a few:

        Oogra

        Perakay/Bolani

        Pakora

        Shlombeh

Qabuli (I know this is of Uzbaki decent, I thought I would share it anyways, since I'm sure all of us eat and love to eat it.)

        Shola

        Lawang/Da Charg Ghorma

        Tor Banjan

        Bendeey

        Kaddoo

Daa zma lewanay Zrra gorah, daa sta lewanee Mina..
Za ba da Sahra warnakam da Iran pa Golestan,
Dalta za yao & yakta yam, halta zar zma pa Shaan
        .

Mantoo (Probably not of Pashtun decent either, nevertheless eaten excessively:P)

          Ashak

          Sish Kabab

          Sikh Kabab

          Achar/Turshee

          Kichray

Daa zma lewanay Zrra gorah, daa sta lewanee Mina..
Za ba da Sahra warnakam da Iran pa Golestan,
Dalta za yao & yakta yam, halta zar zma pa Shaan
          .

My best and favourite Pashtun dish is wocha qhwash/Landay (direid lamb). It is called the Landi Palaw. If you are not a physically active then don't bother trying it. This is very exlusive to Pashtuns and no other peole have them. It is mainly dish of people from Knadahar, Ghazni, Wardak and lOgar etc.

I also love "Ghrastalee" and "Zazgholee". Does any one know what that is?

On my last visit to Afghanistan, I tried Shenwari Kebab in Nawi Shahr/Shahre Naw.

                          Mayaney,

Thanks. The difference is how it is cooked. The same bamia/bedeey, rice, kebab is cooked by others as well but differntly with differnet ingredients. Our ingredients and way of cooking is way too different from the South Asians.

By the way we are not south Asians.lol My family is not around and I called my cousin to ask his mum to cook some Peerakey and Aashakey for 2moro. : _)

^ Misbah Guley, you can hardly find a person who wouldn't like Landay. You know what, I like the "pootakay" the skin. I love it. And "Wazga" as well.
