Hey this is amazing. Could you put together a cook book of sorts here at PF for all of this stuff? It looks perfectly made and a new generation would benefit greatly because you guys have cooked what looks to the eye like a pristine meal.

We would understand if it all couldnt be done at once, but maybe day by day or week by week releasing the detailed recipes for each of these pictured dishes.

It truly looks like art and the artists should be recognized!

On Pashto.org, I used to post recipes to some of these dishes.

The beauty I think you are seeing is 100 years of cooking experience from my mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. I try my best to portray that in some of my photos. These are recipes she (my mother) has worked tirelessly to create. I'm sure you will see a cook book, website, (and if I have the opportunity, a business) come from me one of these days.

midnight_sun, if you are serious about that, this is the best laid out recipe book i have aver seen. i bought it years ago and the old cover is much better, but the layout of it and the photos are very inspiring.
the use of traditional implements used in the cooking and serving and the natural colour range of the backdrops is beautiful.
actually, the recipes turn out better than the food i actually had, when in south india, lol.

Only in your atheist Marxist brain. Never used those words myself. I assume you also fantasize about being a martyr against the boys in black turbans and then you awake to find your Canadian bed nice and warm. You then Proceed to grin and clap malevolently when you realize a Canadian 18 year old boy died in your place fighting your enemies for you looooool.

Wow, thanks. I don't have that kind of beautiful setup, but it does give me some ideas how to present them. Now to get busy writing and observing

i got mine about 15 years ago and the cover is much better. it doesn't have those white boxed wording just dakshin written in gold across the top and small unintrusive authors name and a line of words about south indian etc. i will get a photo of it to you in the future.

Faye, are you Indian yourself? Or Pashtun? I'm confused.

Here is a new photo to add to this album thread.

Shole Ghorbandi (similar to Kichri Qurot)

                          --

some extra notes: Qurot was made fresh, no dried, store bought, or grocery store yogurt or sour cream added.

no. i am just an australian born, non-muslim, gypsy. i spent 2 years in india after going via turkey, iran, afghanistan and pakistan from europe, in 1977.
it was only on my last 2 visits to india, 06 and 08, that i got to eat south indian cooking and i did NOT like it, there.

Surprising. Most Indian food I have tried has tasted pretty good. I think the most similar to Afghan food is far from the south, but north...probably Kashmiri, since Afghan influence is still present there.
