And?/Verdict?Originally posted by Karachi View PostI tried it today
I was once at a South Indian party, where all the food was completely outside my realm of experience anyway. At this party some of the guests were Sri Lankan, both Tamil and Sinhalese and one of them I knew through work very well. She insisted that I try this dry dessert type of thing and I politely obliged. They looked a little like Panjabi barfis, so I thought I knew the deal. I took one little bite and Allah being merciful and kind allowed me to get through to the end of the party after which I gasped for air and water on my way home.
Several toothbrushes/mouthwashes and lemon teas later, I still had the after taste. One week on.
BTW, if you are Sri Lankan and you are reading this, apologies in advance. I once had Sudanese tea and it was like drinking boiled up oversweetened cough medicine and when my hosts were not looking, I fed it to the plants.

i have a wonderful south indian cookbook and regularly follow recipes from it, but have yet to attempt a dosai.
i use coconut a lot but not the oil as it seems too greasy.
sri lanka was very good for fish dishes, that's true. especially when freshly cooked, at a homestay by the sea.

I had a Sri Lankan takeaway yesterday: rice with chickpeas, potato & mutton.
It was nice I guess. Not too hot at all.---

I occaisionally prefer to eat Desi food over the fast food burgers, chicken and such.
There are many people of all ethncities in the hood I am from, including Tamils from Sri Lanka and some own restaurants selling their food. Its like South Indian - nice.Dark Vader Ghost King El Malo Camello Papa

Sri Lankans are by far the biggest minority where I live.
Also lots of Indians, Blacks, Irish, English and some Pakistanis & Afghans.---

Yeah, I like the multiculturalism.
It's good for when you want a takeaway lol.
The downside is the way some peoples (sometimes includes Afghans) stink on a packed bus/train lol.
I really can't stand the council estate lower class 'white trash' though. Every other demographic is fine, but working class uneducated white people annoy me. Upper working class & middle class whites are better, in fact probably one of the best ethnicities to live near around.---
