The only catch is that you might not come back home alive! :DOriginally posted by Shehbaz Khan View PostTor_Khan, Lala you forgot Karachi's Haleem and Nehari
And those Dahi Baray at Burns Road are too mouth watering
Karachi is now becoming a hub for "desi" fast-food, just like Lahore. Places like Boat Basin, Khadda Market, etc sell what is considered a fusion of local tastes and deep-fried American 'food'.
Yeah and I agree with Monkey D. Luppy, (pirate captain, bounty: yakdam no beri) and Scimitar, daal is actually very good for you and most Pashtuns can't afford to have meat so regularly so it serves as an excellent alternative. I especially like the yellow daal on which you put fried onions. If made properly, there's nothing like it. Plus the last thing you'd want instead for dinner is a chapli kabab with a naan."If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be".
"Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives".

you eat ,,daal or not,,dose,nt make any differance.
daal is a food and i am sure many other people around the world also eat it.
It is south-asain food and they are known for that but nothing to be ashamed if eat it.
It is so sick some members make fun of food. Many of their people still in the search of food and i am sure they would love to have it.
It is easy to enjoy up on westren socail benifit and make fun of foods or poor.
i do,nt eat ,,daal,, in my daily life but as a human, muslim and pashtun i respect the choice of others.
It is fav food of all south asains(punjabis, gujratis, sindis, etc)
from the pliticains to celebrities their fav one is daal chawal-------daal wrejai.

Haha, I agree to a very large extent. The best 'Wreta Ghwakha' you can find in Karachi is in Mari Pur just near Liyari
So the risk is there
And yes Boat Basin, went for Sehri there 5 days ago
Enjoyed it

There are still many amongst the Pashtoons who perpetuate that Central Asian/Mughal prejudice that as 'meat-eaters' we are stronger, better and braver than the under-fed vegetarian Hindus from the Indian plains.
Trouble is dietary habits based on history do not make us as world competitive as our dhaal fed Indian counterparts. I would have hoped that during the month of Ramadhan, knowing that there are many Pashtoons who go to sleep with empty stomachs would have taught us just enough humility to appreciate that for some, dhaal works.

:sOriginally posted by Karachi View Posti am not sure about other pakistanis but in my community we dont that much daal, I am from a urduspeaking community which came from Delhi. Delhi ofcourse is where best of Mughal cuisines came from. In our family most of our traditional food is meat based, my mom and her family specially has traditional recipes passed down through the generations of many different mughal cuisine items. I hardly eat daal, maybe like once a month
I have researched about my mom's family background, they most likely came from afghanistan, but not from pashtun areas, they were most likely dari/farsi speakers or could be even tajik, i am not sure. My grandfather understood and spoke dari/farsi very well, even my mom knows it. Many of the so called "mughal food" actually from Afghanistan/tajikistan area, ofcourse it also mixed with local indian food too and became uniqueZa REHMAN da aagha ilm a pannah ghwarham…
