i am not sure about other pakistanis but in my community we dont that much daal, I am from a urduspeaking community which came from Delhi. Delhi ofcourse is where best of Mughal cuisines came from. In our family most of our traditional food is meat based, my mom and her family specially has traditional recipes passed down through the generations of many different mughal cuisine items. I hardly eat daal, maybe like once a month
I have researched about my mom's family background, they most likely came from afghanistan, but not from pashtun areas, they were most likely dari/farsi speakers or could be even tajik, i am not sure. My grandfather understood and spoke dari/farsi very well, even my mom knows it. Many of the so called "mughal food" actually from Afghanistan/tajikistan area, ofcourse it also mixed with local indian food too and became unique
