By MIGUEL HELFT Robert Galbraith/Reuters Apple said its event on Wednesday would include “a sneak peek of the next major version of Mac OS X.”
If you want to find out what’s new with the Macintosh, stay put. Steven P. Jobs, Apple’s chief executive, is expected to take the stage at 10 a.m. California time, 1 p.m. New York time, at the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, Calif. The event, which Apple is streaming live, was billed by Apple as an opportunity for reporters to “come see what’s new for the Mac.” Apple said the event would include “a sneak peek of the next major version of Mac OS X.” Various Apple rumor sites are also predicting that Apple may introduce a lighter, smaller and cheaper version of its MacBook Air. That could further accelerate Apple’s PC business, which is doing quite well. On Monday Apple reported a strong quarter with Mac unit sales up 27 percent from a year ago, suggesting that the company is gaining share in the PC market.
We will live-blog the event as soon as it starts.
