  • Helmand locals want ban on camera cell phones

LASHKARGAH (PAN): Residents in southern Helmand province are calling for a ban on mobile phones with cameras saying they are being used to spread pornography and Taliban propaganda.
Some of the local youth are sending pornography to their friends, while the Taliban is disseminating videos of their fights with foreign troops, residents told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Haji Nazar Gul, a resident of Nadali district, said the government did not appear to care about the content of the videos and messages being sent through the mobile phone networks. He said in some cases, secretly filmed videos were causing arguments between people.
Ghayasuddin, a resident of the provincial capital of Lashkargah, said the Taliban were sending video shot on their mobile phones of militants fighting foreign troops to hundreds of subscribers.
Messages in which they encourage young men to join their movement were also being disseminated this way, he said, adding that they many young men had been recruited.
Mullah Shin Gul, another resident of Lashkargah, said some people keep videos of their families, including women, on their mobile phones and that these videos could cause problems between families if the phone is lost or used by someone else.
Ali Shah Mazloomyar, director of the Information and Culture Department, said spreading pornography and inciting men to join armed groups is against Islam and Afghan culture. Mazloomyar said his department had talked to security officials and steps would be taken against those involved in moral corruption.
Mahmood Noorzai, a spokesman, for Helmand police headquarters, said they had formed a joint commission to investigate the claims. He said steps would be taken against those spreading pornography and propaganda.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

camera phones have no place in a society where women are harassed for walking down the street to carry on with their daily routine. i understand it and i think the usage of all types of cameras should be banned in public places.
