i read yesterday, that a british company has produced petroll from air and water.
my laptop is not copying at the moment but if you google 'petrol from air', there are a lot of articles about it.

faye, I already posted that in one of my threads. And I have become a strong advocate of clean energy like solar and wind----

And I hope with such energy sources the tensions and conflicts over energy will a bit subside.

another solar power trader, took his business to china because he wasn't getting enough interest here.
the oz government appears to be taking an interest now, though. might have been embarassed into it, lol.

IRENA Launches Roadmap to Double Renewable Energy by 2030

                        BusinessWire · Jan. 14, 2013 | Last Updated: Jan. 14, 2013 12:01 AM ET

International efforts to double the share of renewable energy by 2030 are attainable, but need to accelerate substantially if they are to be successful, according to a new global roadmap launched at the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly in Abu Dhabi.

More than 150 countries are attending the two-day assembly, which has become the world’s pre-eminent policy gathering to promote the uptake of renewable energy.

The REMAP 2030 process will bring together experts and policy makers from across the globe together to assess the gap between current renewable energy projections and targets set by the UN Secretary-General’s Sustainable Energy for All initiative.

Initial results show that investment in renewable power generation, grid expansions, sustainable biomass and the use of renewable energy to generate heat needs to accelerate substantially to meet targets. Global renewable power generation will have to exceed annual expansion rates of more than 150 GW per year, compared to around 110 GW in 2011.

“REMAP 2030 clearly maps the challenge we face in meeting international targets to double the share of renewable energy worldwide,” said Adnan Amin, IRENA Director General. “The good news is that costs are falling, the technology is spreading, and countries across the world are implementing policies to make this happen. With the right political will, a world powered by clean, renewable energy is within our reach.”

                        Note to Editors

IRENA is mandated by 159 countries and the European Union to promote the sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy, and to serve as the global hub for renewable energy cooperation and information exchange. Formally established in 2011, IRENA is the first major international organization to be headquartered in the Middle East.

China to Join International Renewable Energy Agency

China has announced it will join the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), a milestone in international efforts to double the share of renewable energy worldwide by 2030.

The accession of China – a world leader in technology manufacturing and the use of wind, solar and hydropower – marks a major step toward universal membership for the Agency, which currently has 160 participating states.

“China looks forward to becoming a full member of IRENA soon, as well as working alongside all countries for greater achievements in global renewable energy development,” said Liu Qi, Vice-Minister of the National Energy Administration of China, at IRENA’s 3rd annual Assembly in the United Arab Emirates capital, Abu Dhabi.

China is the world’s largest energy producer, with total installed electrical power generation capacity of 1140 GW, and is increasingly turning to renewable energy to power its fast-growing economy.

It is the world leader for installed capacity of hydro and wind power, with 249 GW of hydro and 63 GW of wind, and is adding more hydro and wind capacity annually than any other country. China’s installed generating capacity of solar PV power has reached 7 GW, a tenfold increase over two years. China is also a manufacturing powerhouse for solar PV, wind and hydro power technology.

“The decision by China to join IRENA is a milestone in international efforts to promote renewable energy,” said IRENA’s Director-General Adnan Z. Amin. “I am delighted with the confidence China has shown in IRENA and I look forward to their active participation in the global effort for a clean energy future for all.”

Germany, China Sign Agreement to Push Renewable Energy Expansion

Germany and China agreed to work together for the expansion of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind.
German Environment Minister Peter Altmaier and Liu Qi, deputy director of China’s National Energy Administration, signed an agreement today in Abu Dhabi, Altmaier’s ministry said in an e-mailed statement. Both countries seek to work together on energy policy, implementation of energy systems, and showcase projects such as renewable-energy cities in China, it said.

China, the world’s largest carbon emitter due to its dependence on coal, plans to add 49 gigawatts of renewable- energy capacity this year in an effort to boost power production without increasing its reliance on fossil fuels.
