  • Are We Becoming Cyborgs?

SINCE broadband began its inexorable spread at the start of this millenium, Internet use has expanded at a cosmic rate. Last year, the number of Internet users topped 2.4 billion — more than a third of all humans on the planet. The time spent on the screen was 16 hours per week globally — double that in high-use countries, and much of that on social media. We have changed how we interact. Are we also changing what we are?

We are all addicted to the internet. The usage is comparable to drugs and alcohol. An addiction is anything that am individual uses it throughout the day and is not a necessity to live.

There was a time that I used to use internet for more than 14 hours but then realized that real world is more beautiful and more important than the virtual one. Travelling around the world is a richer experience than exploring it by the screen. Talking to people in real is more efficient, effective and pleasing than social media.

Recently I met a Swiss person who is working on a project on how to save children from excessive use of internet. How to bring them to face real life situations and to play grounds instead of on line games.

'the proof of the pudding is in the eating'. nothing like the multidimensional experience, for oneself.

the internet has it's place but dependence and overuse of the information technology, leads to lack of full experience of life, which i believe is a necessary lead up to maturity, true knowledge and wisdom.
