Mars Rover vs. the water car

Not since Neil Armstrong’s first step on the moon has the world been captivated by a marvel of science, engineering and the human potential.

Sunday night, the hush that had descended across the globe erupted with cheers of jubilation as engineer, Allen Chen, at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory announced: “Touchdown confirmed ... we’re safe on Mars.” Across the United States and Canada, people met at homes and cafes to view the countdown to one of the most expensive scientific endeavours of the human race.

But on the other side of the planet, in Pakistan, millions of people were celebrating another scientific “breakthrough.” Pakistani engineer Agha Waqar Ahmad claimed he had invented a “water kit” that would enable automobiles to dispense with gasoline and instead run on plain water. His story was straight from the medieval annals of alchemists attempting to turn metal into gold.

While American engineers had to rely on the evidence of images sent back from Mars to confirm and validate their accomplishment, the Pakistani engineer had no such problem. His invention was presented on live TV with news anchors taking turns to drive the “water car” and marvel at this “invention.” Politicians jumped on the bandwagon with the federal cabinet meeting three times in Islamabad to discuss how to mass-produce this manna from heaven that came during the holy month of Ramadan.

Even Pakistan’s top nuclear scientist, the infamous Dr. A. Q. Khan, chipped in with his stamp of approval. He said: “I have investigated the matter and there is no fraud involved”.

It took Pakistan’s MIT-educated physicist Prof. Pervez Hoodbhoy, to burst the bubble. In dismissing the water car as a joke, he wrote the inventor “had exposed just how far Pakistan has fallen into the pit of ignorance and self-delusion.” Hoodbhoy concluded: “our leaders are lost in the dark, fumbling desperately for a miracle; our media is chasing spectacle, not truth; and our great scientists care more about being important than about evidence. … it is easier to believe the world is run by magic and conspiracies, to wish and wait for Aladdin’s magic lamp.”

Which brings us to the debate about culture and progress triggered by U.S. Republican presidential candidate, Mitt Romney, and his comments comparing the economies of Israel and Palestine.

Some have accused Romney of being a racist, but the facts speak otherwise.

In 2002, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) released a scathing report written by distinguished Arab intellectuals who slammed Arab countries for oppressing women, subjugating citizens, and failing to provide adequate education. The report said the Arab world was stuck in Dark Ages.

To be fair, there is no such thing as a distinct Jewish culture or a designated Arab or Muslim culture. The culture of Jews who spit on Christian monks in Jerusalem is not the same as the culture of the urban Jew of Haifa who heads a NASDAQ company.

Similarly the culture of a Palestinian Arab academic such as Prof Rashid Khalidi is not the same as the culture of Palestinian Hamas leader Khaled Mishal. Wall Street Journal columnist Richard Landes, who came to Romney’s defence, admits “Palestinian culture compares favourably with that of other Arabs. Palestinians have higher education, a strong work ethic and successful entrepreneurs.”

Somewhere in between, lies the truth.

But the culture that believes in Aladdin’s lamp and water cars is not equal to the culture that lands Curiosity on the planet Mars.

Not since Neil Armstrong’s first step on the moon has the world been captivated by a marvel of science, engineering and the human potential.

In a way the blowback may spark intellectual change in countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan. It maybe a long shot, but sometimes you need to sink really low to be able to rise again .

wasn't this water car guy from SWAT?

No, he was from Sindh the southern province. The Swati guy had operated a generator through electrolysis. But he didn't go that high-profile.

As long as we have retarding forces like Manzrey, it would be very difficult for Muslim societies to get out of the mess.

I understand one should always embrace all sort of innovations(no matter how stupid they might sound, such as the water-kit)but celebrations should also be held off till this scientist disproves the Law of Thermodynamics. Science does change with times(although these Laws that debunk his claims are pretty solid)so we never know what to expect. However, that doesn't mean news anchors begin already calculating how much they can save this pseudo-invention, etc. This is like me claiming that I can fuel a car for 100 miler per gallon, by singing Babu lala with a high-pitch tone, and RTR and Tormana already begin an Attan in celebration for my success and invention.

Sorry Toramana, it's hard not to criticize the Banana republic.
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

From time immemorial people were converting water into wine, but we have converted it into fuel, because of our belief in the betterment of all mankind. Ground breaking contribution of Aqua Waqar Al-Kindi-wal-YouTube to the world of science would be greater than Dr. Abdus Salam. He shall be awarded Nobel laureate award for correcting the laws of thermodynamics that were standing on its head for two centuries. After all these scientific laws are not divine laws but merely man-made laws and can be broken anytime. Thermodynamics is the enemy of mankind, and was an obstacle to break the shackles of slavery of Western imperialism.

At last, a knight in shining armour from Khairpur slayed the dragon of Thermodynamics. The Aqua kit has not only demolished the western secular science but is going to liberate all mankind from the exploitation of the Western Hegemony. If Karl Marx was alive today he would have written ‘Das Aqua kit’ instead of ‘Das Capital’.

The Mashaikh-ul-Science, great nuclear scientist and Urdu columnist Dr. Abdul Jabir bin Hayan and Dr Fruit Congratulations mand have blessed the Aqua kit. Their ruling in support of Aqua-fuel kit was an arrow pierced into the hearts of unpatroitic ****s who are prostrated before the false idol of western science. It was their untiring effort of photocopying skills and spreading the Halal science (according to the palette of our masses) on media that have prepared the ground for scientific revolution in Pakistan. The nation should pay back these Mashaikh-ul-science by making them president, and Prime Minister as Indians have done years ago. These three have turned Pakistan into Aqua-con valley and Khairpur would be next Bangalore.

Not only Al Kindi-wal-youtube demolished the laws of themodynamics, but our media has also demolished the concept of idiot-box. Now the ratings-fuelled channels are being used as laboratories of science. TV studios have turned into Kon Research Laboratories, and research (google) papers are being aired to spread the light of halal scientific knowledge. All TV channels have totally converted their generators from gasoline to Aqua Kit.

It’s time that we must stand united and repose our belief in our own homegrown talent. It is our national duty to believe in Aqua kit. We must also believe that corruption can be eliminated in 19 days. We shall strengthen our belief in media that is the source of providing information and awareness to the people. Media is going to liberate our nation from the chains of colonial science.

Dr. Jabir bin Hayanhas said that all great scientists and achievers like Einstein, Steve jobs, Bill Gates were all school drop outs. By the grace of God, we have the highest school dropoutrate in the world. This great pool of dropouts is producing scientists, like Aqua Waqar-Al-Kindi, and IT specialist like Steve Arsalan. His meteoric 900 million IT industry is proof of our robust economy. It’s the inefficient government that can’t run this country’s economy that is going on snail’s pace of 2 per cent. Steve Arsalan has also demolished the Babu’s economy and proved that the actual economic growth of Pakistan can be pushed to 300 per cent.

Dr. Fruit congratulationsmand and Dr. Abdul Jabr bin Hayanare now ready to work under Dr Aqua Waqar al-kindiwal YouTube for self-enrichment..er..sorry… uranium enrichment with Aqua kit. They are now developing factories in Malaysia, Srilanka and head office in Dubai. The next step would be to build a Bin Qasim, Ghaznavi, Alp Arsalan and Zawahiri missiles powered by aqua kit. Hydrogen converted into helium from one glass of water can make a missile cover 3ooo km.
Some armchair professors who have not invented anything are calling them crackpots. Oye! They are our Jackpots. We would be saving 14 billion dollar annually from oil imports. Imagine the export and construction of the Water kit. The western imperialists would be out to kill him to rob us of victory that we achieved working so hard on Google. Government shall provide him all resources and funds to realise the dream of dominating the world. Protecting Dr. al-Kindi should be the first priority of this government.

Lastly, now since we have solved all problems facing Pakistan, my request to Aqua Waqas Al-kindi-wal-YouTube is that he should develop an Aqua-fuel-led telescope that could end the yearly fights on the sighting of moon on Eid-ul-Azha in Pakistan.

                        @ khostai .

afghanistan has got 30 + plus war still going on , when people run for their lifes , its obvious that there can be no science , economy , progress .

war dont faciliate such acts , especially not a civil war fought by the bottom of the intellectual spectrum .

all our engeneers , doctors , professionals fled , were killed or are too old .

besides real scientific progress needs money , due to the war we lost two generations , people who had not the possibility to have access to education .

and i didnt mentioned the intenional forced ignorance upon us , which was a main goal of the pakis and iranians and all our other enemies .

people and countries with leaders and thinkers dont fall prey to foreign intervention, and dont become play balls for others .

BUT , IN AFGHANISTAN people dont make fool out of theirselfes , by claiming things which are not true .

and they dont try to sell it to the population as a success and a proof of their superiority .

and considering that those people should know it better is really tragic .

pakistan is not in a 30+ plus war recieved billions , has got universities and schools , and the best to show off are claims of inventions which dont exist , to impress the population ???

like geo tv the barret guy who claims that pakistan will be in 5 years on the moon and the world leading super power ????

one thing is blind and stupid nationalism , the other thing is loosing touch with reality .
