This is nothing new and the Chemical process used here is called "anhydrous pyrolysis" and the Americans already have a pilot plant that does exactly this.

Plastic waste is a massive environmental problem and whilst I like the idea. The problem with this is that it requires thermal energy to break down and refine the plastic into diesel. However I'd say that semi-processed thick sludgy plastic/oil could be used to power, tar oil burning ships. Since the oil they use is so thick that it need to be melted before it's burned.
