  • Heratis fall in love with flowers

mid a growing urbanisation trend, residents of this western city are increasingly falling in love with plants and flowers -- and environment protection to boot. About 200-300 different kinds of flowers are produced in the province, bordering Iran. Ahmad Shah, who runs a nursery in Herat City, said people preferred buying local flowers. He also imports flowers on demand from Iran.
Darwaish Ahmad, a florist in the Siawashan village of Guzra district, also said that people were increasingly buying flowers for decorating their houses due to lack of greenery in the town.
He pointed out different types of flowers were being grown in gardens and placed in vases. The plants include 'apartment flowers.'
Municipality officials confirmed the population of Herat City had dramatically increased, leading to the construction of new apartments and other buildings.
Muhammad Raza, 25, a resident of the first police district, said the environment of apartments was fascinating with the increased use of flowers.
Head of the nursery association, Abdul Nasir Haideri, claimed their business had considerably flourished over the last two years. He said they sent flowers to many provinces, including Kabul.
He revealed there were currently 20 nurseries in Herat City and districts, including Guzra and Injeel, where many types of flower were grown. "If the culture of growing flowers is promoted in other provinces, it will serve as a big source of income for people."

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

Herat is pretty well off because it hasn't experienced the same level of War like the south has and it also has a pretty high customs revenue.

^ you are right. Living conditions is really nice there. They have good blocks (apartment buildings). Herat has a great environment, no problems with dust. One of my cousin lives there now, and she says its like living in an Afghan American like city.

i was in herat for 15 hours a few years ago. it's a totally different environment comparing to the rest of the cities in afghanistan. unlike kabul which has become a large garbage dump over the years.

I am no bird, and no nest ensnares me.

non commercial would cost less if he was in charge himself which he plans on doing. right now it's n herat but soon it will be in qanadahar.
