  • Having a Rat as a pet?

    Thanks Jasmine.That was interesting.

This article reminded me of the NYC subway rats, lol. Once I was waiting for the train and a big fat rat attacked my food that I was carrying in my shopping bag, and when the train arrived, the rat jumped out of the bag (as I stood up) and ran away with a major piece of my food!LOL.This reminds me of another fact that rats destroy 1/3 part of our food. Nevertheless, all animals deserve equal affection from humans including rats.

Those rats are friendly. Gulalai, the MTA is amazing and you know it. 24 hour service = Which other city offers that? I heard many other advanced cities don't even have an AC in their subway systems, imagine in the summer. Visualize Gulalai!

Oh and food for thought :
NYC Transit has the largest hybrid-electric bus fleet in the world. Its also the largest subway system in the world, measured by track mileage; the world's first mechanically ventilated vehicular tunnel, and an aerial tramway. Through prolonged use, and a distinct history of events, the infrastructure now faces increasing problems in functionality, dependability, and funding

    *Hides and runs away*.

    Rats FTW!
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

Oh, I NY subway trains. I get to see free dances and listen to free music (esp those Mexican/spanish ones--you can imagine how they start playing those instruments and all of them have exactly same starting tunes!!!), those rambling talks by drunken, or homeless,or Jesus-loving guys, and those young couples who fight on weekends.Once a random girl slapped her boyfriend in front of me and got off on the next stop, and only I know how I controlled my laughter.Sometimes I have these really interesting dicussions with people sitting besides me--once this old American lady was complaining from the young generation like they are immoral and undignified. She reminded me of my grandmother, lulz.

Wow!!I did not know that.I am always amazed the way they have designed the subway. The subway stations are like mini cultural units.I love those artists playing their music on different stations.Such a pleasure to listen to them! But the MTA needs to work on some of the tracks though. I heard they are going to increase the fare. It's insane because their services are continuously deteriorating especially the A, B, and D trains.Well I must not complain and you know the reason better..hahaha

You get to see all sort of activities being performed on those train lines. The most interesting one is when a group of African males start dancing and jumping all over the poles. Usually when they are done, they like to make a little snark comment "Ladies, what we just did, your boyfriend cant do". They walk around with their hats[collecting money] and they say "We accept Cash, debit, credit and personal checks". lol.

They are going through a series of renovation. Look at the L line, the service used to be horrible on the L line but now it has changed drastically. Have in mind, this is one of the worlds most organized system. The reason you find rats is because its open 24/7. Other systems are usually shut down after mid-night and they begin cleaning up. Nevertheless, If a 25 cent increase equates to better service and more improved wait times, I am all for it. Like I said Gulalai, London[NYCS RIVAL] Just recently got Air conditioning trains. Could you believe that? Just this year I believe they got AC's installed. Imagine being in London in the summer time, visualize again, I heard you have a pretty creative mind, tsk.

Rats aren't harmful creatures Gulalai. They help you in your Lab and serve as good pets.

The rat infestation is actually a big problem. I remember last year MTA announced to use a new strategy to trap the rodents.People throw so much litter and so the persistent rodent infestation. I guess the infestation problem is going to become more serious since MTA is thinking of cutting its trash removal staff.

Ahem@ Creative mind!I actually have experienced it this summer with my powerful 3D visual perception. The A train AC was down (happened thrice) and we felt like in trapped in a deoxygenated cave.Oh well, I don't mind 25 cent increase as long as they keep provinding us free pole-dancing and music..hahaha

OH YES!! They are really really important. Rat/mice are the best animal model organisms besides Drosophila melanogaster (fruit fly), C.elegans (roundworm),and Chickens. They are presently CRUCIAL for all important fields of research notably cancer, drugs development, autoimmmune disorders, etc. The thing is that we can't use humans as our experimental subjects for human diseases and the higher mammals like chimps and monkeys are really expensive.Plus their reproduction cycle takes long time like years!!The lab mice/rats give us results in a matter of months.
The lab mice/rat are different than the House mice/rat.Different companies have develped different strains of mice which differ genetically. The popular one is the Wistar rat but there are many other commercial strains like Zuker, Sprague D.rat,etc.

I am working with these ones at present:
