  • The insignificance of mankind.

No long article to read through this time. Just watch this.

All of mankind's petty conflicts are insignificant when you realise just how small we really are on the Universal scale. There are about 300 billion (300000000000) other stars in our Galaxy and possibly about 500 billion Galaxies in the Universe. So if we take ours to be the average, we can assume that there are possibly 1500000000000000000000000 other stars in the Universe.
And we have 9 planets (I don't care Pluto is a Planet) in our Solar System so again if we take it to be the average we can assume that there are 2.7 trillion (27000000000000) Planets in our Galaxy alone. So from there we can assume that there are 135000000000000000000000000 Planets in the Universe.

And rest assured VY Canis Majoris is certainly not the largest celestial body that we will see.

Hope you found that informative and yes I did do the calculations myself

it's all relative but mankind has already created pollution over the whole of this planet and now they are sh***ing in space and on other planets.

Haris, if string theory is true then can you imagine whole universes in another plane of existence, with new ones being created as we speak, and old ones caving in. The possibilities are almost limitless. In another galaxy, or even our own, there might be another sentient , organic lifeform thinking the exact same thing.

To get an idea of how big that star is,

          We can fit over:
          1321 Earths into Jupiter.
          1300000 Earths into The Sun
11,666,192,832,000,000 Earths into XY Canis Majoris

insignificant is not the right word. which other organism has transformed half as much as human beings over the time? that there might be more to the world than what we are aware of doesn't change that.

I am no bird, and no nest ensnares me.

That's looking at it from a human perspective. We are significant in our minds because we are all that we know.

When you think about it we have not transformed all that much in the last 250,000 years. We had so much potential throughout history to be so much greater than we are now. Imagine if the whole world was united under the Roman Empire or the Islamic Khalifa. Imagine how far we would have come with all those scientific improvements many hundreds of years ago.

But it is our nature to be divisive. We are pathetic. We could have been so much more.

The only time we are united is when we are at war. Many every-day technological improvements came about from research in WW1 & WW2.

I am sure that throughout the 135000000000000000000000000 other Planets that exist, there are civilisations which are far more 'significant' and there are probably civilisations which are far less significant too but we are nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Humans don't live on other worlds because we can't handle ourselves on our own world. I mean the chances of us even discovering 0.0001% of the Universe are infinite.

so what? we would have been ahead. then what?? there would always be something else that needs to be caught up to. no need worrying your kidneys over nothing.

Lol i'm not worried or depressed over anything.

Point of this thread was to let people know we aren't all that special. We are a minor part of a bigger machine and we should work harder on perfecting ourselves and our society so that someday collectively we can make something of ourselves.

I'm not dwelling on what could have been, because I know that we could be alot worse off just as we could be alot better off but regardless we, humanity, should always be striving for perfection. Which is not the case now in our human societies all over the world.

Thought I would mix that reflective message in with some Science facts.

haris, if our 'nature' is, to be divisive, why would mohammad suggest for people to not be divisive and to be rid of divisions?
personally, i believe the divisions are from wrong thinking.

I thought divisiveness was in humanity because it makes humans compete, competition forces creativeness, new ideas, and motivation that is why humanity has brought new ideas during war when their existence is threatened.
Look at Christopher Columbus. When the Ottomans put an embargo in place against the Europeans from trade with the east. They had to go around Africa to get to India and the far east. Columbus took the risk of finding a shorter route and hence the New World was discovered. He would have never set out for this risky trip if there was no embargo.
The Idea of making ships out of iron came during the American Civil War when man realized that a ship should be built that can not be sunk by canon fire. The next step was to make a gun that can sink ships made of iron.
                          and the beat goes on.

That is the very reason Mohammad (saw) suggested that we not be divisive and rid ourselves of division as you say.

We, as humans did not heed the words of those gone before him such as Jesus (saw). We were again divisive by changing his original words to meet our own agendas. Mohammad (saw) did preach exactly what you suggest and it is up to us to follow what he preached. If we all did so then the world would be a much better place. But again we are failing in that.....There are many 'bad' Muslims and many Non-Muslims who for whateer reason reject his message, thereby being divisive.
