  • 132 university students graduated

KANDAHAR (PAN): As many as 132 students graduated from four faculties of the Kandahar University were awarded certificates during a graduation ceremony in this capital city on Tuesday.
Last year, 162 students, including four females, graduated from the university, but this year there was no female among the graduates.
"The graduation of 132 students is a big achievement for us in the face of insecurity, we are faced with in the province," said the dean, Dr. Hazrat Mir Totakhel.
The graduates include 35 students from medical, 31 from engineering, 40 from agriculture and 26 from education faculty. The graduation ceremony was arranged at the Mandigak Palace.
"I will invest my energy in the reconstruction of Afghanistan," said one of the graduates from engineering faculty, Hotak, who urged the higher education ministry to pay attention towards the problems of the Kandahar University, lying far from the capital, Kabul.
So far 1,009 students had graduated from Kandahar University established in 1990.

    Hi, I am the source.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

Hmm.. four female graduates last year, none this year.. rather frustrating =(
But on a brighter note, the fields they graduated in are lucrative. Let's hope that in near future, we will have many graduates in Humanities as well.

You know, sometimes I wonder if I went back home.. if I'd be able to go to university there and graduate.. with my limited knowledge of Pashto and all.. I doubt it, man..

Guys don't feel disheartened. We have thousands of Educated Pashtuns[Majority Kandaharis] in the Tri-state area waiting to serve Afghanistan the moment peace arises. I once attended a University that was pretty much dominated by Pashtun graduate students.
