  • ~ Freedom

    Salamoona =)

Here's a new topic I'd like to discuss with you guys..

~ Freedom - Born free and yet in a thousand chains.

    What is freedom to you?

What does individual freedom mean in a society, e.g. how does MY personal freedom affect the people around me?

What is freedom of a society? What is freedom to us Pashtuns politically? I have an interesting qoute for that "Nareh wahi chi khpala Khaura khpa Ekhtyaar zmujh, Khaura kho mo khpala da, Ekhteyaar da bal pa Laas ki deena."

What are the differences between freedom in the West and in the East? For example, Afghans in the West are always stigmatized for being "too azaad". But is that true when you take into account that those people back home are not azaad in the sense that they cannot o what they want because they are under a lot more social control? Soo.. if you take a person out of Shkarfar Bazaar in Afghanistan and sit them down on Broadway in New York, what will they do, lower their gaze?

This leads me to the next question, what advantages and disadvantages does one have to take into account when it comes to freedom, what can happen if a person has no "authoriy" that regulates his/her actions? Eg. no parents, no "khalag", no society they care about?

    Discuss awaaay =)

      Yet another beautiful topic...

i will try to respond to this little by little.

first would like to discuss how a person's action (good or bad) can be associated with 3 different reasons behind it... conscientious, religious belief, or society.

a person who wears covered clothes and burqa in kandahar could be due to 1 of the 3 things listed above... u can replace this burqa thing with many other good character of a man or a woman living under a strict controlled society. if she does this burqa for her own conscientious, she will be covered and baa haya no matter where she goes... even if she reaches castro street of san francisco her conscientious will not let her do anything bad.

if she does this burqa for her religious beliefs, again as long as her religious beliefs are backed by knowledge and full faith in her beliefs she will continue to do so no matter where she goes...

if her burqaa is only for the pressure of society and/or the fact that its a social norm... she will take it off the moment she is out of that environment.

i am sure that u get the picture of what i am trying to say...

but as far as freedom goes ... it is self defined... to me freedom could mean being able to go out of the home and to some other person i could be mean being able to wear shorts rather than pants... everyone has their own definition of freedom... its the same as modesty... it can't have one definition. to each invidual being free could mean different...

to one girl being free could mean her parents letting her go watch a movie with her friends... ot another it could mean her parents letting her sleep with her boyfriend...

The concept of freedom may vary from people to people.
According to me. You have freedom when you can follow your will freely without infeltrating other people freedom.
individual freedom in society - when people are treated equally and have equal rights without falling into the categories of gender religion ethnicity etc.
freedom to pashtuns - the day we have a pashtunistan (southern afghanistan and northern pakistan ) when we would freely utilize our resources.
freedom in west vs east - when you are in the outside you dont wear burqa but if you are in afghanistan there is much more probability that you wear . dependent on your area and your family . you prolly may not like it but people will enforce it on you and thats a kind of losing freedom.

Sometime too much freedome is bad.
If you let your children have too much freedom then they can end up bad.

Soo.. what if your freedom conflicts with another persons.. what if you want to be free to chose what your children do? Or what if you want to be free to listen to music loudly in a public place while someone wants to be free to concentrate on reading his book without being disrupted..?

Freedom is our reason to be.

Without freedom we are born, we die and we leave very little behind and make no contribution, physical or spiritual.
