Der da fakhar khabara da.Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.
A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai
For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."
The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

I'd be more impressed if it didn't seem like more than half of the PhD's were from institutions in Pakistan, and we all know how Pakistani degrees are known for being garbage
He is no different than us,he blindly believes in the words of other men,:
I thought of the same thing but later retracted simply because of our crisis in the region. What they did is better than nothing. They deserve utmost respect for managing to conduct research in such a backward environment. What they do need is hire more Pashtuns who have graduated from elite western institutions to teach in their university, so they can teach them a thing or two about pedagogy and raise their standards by applying what they learned abroad.Originally posted by RevolutionThroughReason View PostI'd be more impressed if it didn't seem like more than half of the PhD's were from institutions in Pakistan, and we all know how Pakistani degrees are known for being garbageEven Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

This is not true about all departments. All the Ph Ds in Maths and Computer Science depts have been obtained from foreign universities. If you check the CVs of Dr Rahmat Ali (whom I know personally) and Dr. Gul Zaman of Maths dept, both have impressive academic records and good amount or research publications (e.g., Rahmat Ali has 71 publications those too in hard subjects like Maths, Gul Zaman has some 20+).Originally posted by RevolutionThroughReason View PostI'd be more impressed if it didn't seem like more than half of the PhD's were from institutions in Pakistan, and we all know how Pakistani degrees are known for being garbage
Chemistry research is strong in Pakistan. Even in Chemistry Dept, many Ph Ds are from foreign universities.
Moreover, it doesn't matter where you obtain your Ph D from. What matters is your research productivity and how active you are currently research-wise.
Also, in Pakistan Ph D have become very tough lately e.g. you are required to pass 8 courses in M. Phil. and have to obtain a GPA of 3.0/4.0 in order to be eligible for enrollment in Ph D program. In Ph D, you are required to pass 8 more courses, do research publications, and have your thesis approved by a foreign referee.
Moreover, promotion to faculty member is strictly based on research productivity e.g., promotion from Asst prof to Assoc prof requires 9 papers in journal of impact factor(in addition to teaching).
