  • How To Convince a Teacher To Change Your Grade

It doesn't work most of the time, your grade is what you deserved.. Fishing won't make a difference between an F or a D

edit: nvm your talking about highschool

    lol
    ahhhem!
Just a heads up - teachers give you marks based on their intuition about you and consistency. (Yes, I am also guilty of this). It is proven that if you're a behavioural student that causes a lot of problems, teachers are more likely to give you a lower mark, even if academically you're strong.
This may work in college and university - because you are buying your marks.
But, otherwise, I would suggest you get REALLY mean parents to sick on the teachers. When I had parents calling me non-stop and coming in to meet with me instead of letting me have my lunch, I was willing to change marks. Parents can be very psycho. That is the BEST medicine.

-From the words of a teacher!

Hm... unless the teacher gave you a grade that you fully believe is not justified, or that you believe was unfair, OR because when you calculated it yourself, you ended up with something different than what your teacher gave you, I don't support request a grade-change. It's not fair.

Work hard, develop a GOOD relationship with your teacher (e.g., visit her/his office hours often), show that you're willing to learn, and actively participate in class discussions or answer questions when the teacher asks during lectures, and you will be fine. Then, if you believe your final grade was unfair, stand up for yourself and have a good argument, like the article above says.

        the student, no.
        The parent..thats a different story.
They have to be those parents though that are all aggressive and wanting to drive you up the wall - asking for a print out of all the marks the student has received, and the weighting of all the marks. Most teachers get lazy and don't do all of this (but I DO!) and so when confronted, they must give in because otherwise it proves they're unorganized.

Naturally, you would be my "suck up" kid that I love and give a high mark to!

Gosh ... that's so unfair! I'd be like, "No way! Your child does not deserve a better grade."... Now, if the child worked really hard and it was obvious to me but his grades were bad, I can imagine that I myself would give the student a higher grade than he deserve.

I am going to be a professor, ka khair wee. I know I'll have to deal with this kinda stuff! hah.

There is a tool called "Markbook" where you can record the grades of all the students on your computer, and for each test/assignment, you can enter how much it will weight towards the final grade. If the teacher puts your marks in this, its fool proof - good luck changing your mark.

Another tip, last impressions are best. If you slack off and tend to improve and bust your butt off toward the end of the term, the teacher remembers you more recently as a hard worker and an improved student. Usually influences marks.

Its really unfair how we mark. I usually sit with the students before giving out marks and we come up with a grade we both agree on. That way there are no surprises.

hahahahahaha!!! Rrrrrreally? Well, I am the type of student who actually has dinners and lunches with her professors, is often invited to banquets and other gatherings where they will be attending, spends hours in long discussions with them, and is good friends with their children and spouses! lol. Well, actually, it's mostly because they're superb people and it's a pleasure being around them, but it's also partially because I might have to work with them in a far, far future (who knows, I might end up teaching at a university they're also professors in! :p) or I might need their support later on.

So the part about building a good relationship with them is EXTREEEEEMELY important, especially to me.

And then, see, what happens is ... because you know them and they know you so well and they mean so much to you, you don't wanna disappoint them! So you automatically work harder and harder just to make sure they are not disappointed in you. This way, they get to see how had you work as well, and so then when you're on the verge of getting a grade lower than an A, they can warn you ahead of time to make sure that you do something about it.

So, yeah! If you were my professor, this is how our relationship would most likely be, girl!

Oh oh, and another advantage of having a good relationship with your teachers is that you get free copies of the books they write This is an even better feeling, 'cause them books tend to be quite expensive sometimes!

                  ^ all true!

And they also know you personally and can make better judgement of who you are as a person - which also influences your marks. I know one of my student whos parents would murder her if she got below a B...and she is really close with me, so I let her know when her marks are slipping.

You also learn more by being around your teachers more. We're like eternal wealths of knowledge.
