  • Request - Memoires de Guerre

    Salamoona,

I am looking for a book, Memoires de Guerre (Memories of War) by Amin Wardak.
    Preferrably in English.

I would greatly appreciate any help.

Are you related to Amin by any chance, Haris?
You don't have to answer if you dont want.
Just curious as you are from Wardak too.

I have it - it took SO long to get to me by airmail from France.
It is NOT in English. As of yet.
They are looking for an English translator however.
    Any volunteers?

The French is easy to read, as Amin's son assured me
    in correspondence about the book.

So if you have enough French, order from

    amazon.fr

If not - well the pictures are historic, especially of
the Qala that was destroyed Soviet bombardment.

PS - In fact I had just looked at this book a minute ago, thinking that I have
to finish it this winter when I have more time to read.
I would love to discuss this book.

It is a GREAT cover photo - captures the
spirit of Resistance against Soviets -
    and Amin at that time.

No, I am not related to him.
Perhaps somewhat distantly since we are both from the same tribe but I have no relations with him as far as I am aware. My father saw him once back in Afghanistan though.

I see, it's a pity that it is only available in French, I was really interested in reading it.
Will definetly look out for any English translations.

I have family in Paris, perhaps I may arrange something some day.

      I appreciate your input. Thanks.

It's a really good find of a book.
For some reason it's not well known.

Amin's family has been searching for a publisher in the U.S.
But I told them that's SO difficult to find someone who
will take true writings about Afghanistan.

Rather than novels which trash Afghans and their culture, like
the pathetic attention-grabber for the author: "The Kabul [Ugly] Salon".
The latter types sell like hotcakes here in The Land of Narcissism !

But historical writings like Amin Wardak's experiences in the anti-Soviet jihad ?
Almost no Americans are interested. Sadly.
For one problem they don't remember back past a year or two ago.
        Let alone, 30 years ago...

If you could get your relatives to read a copy and
tell you what it says, maybe that's the best plan for the moment?
