A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai
For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."
The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

Actually besides California State University, East Bay....University of California, Santa Barbara
has Pashto courses too......i heard in a few years from now, after California gets their state budget back in check, there will be more courses in Pashto Language and Literature here, and you will be able to do a minor in it.

Because faye, they need linguists. They are paying outrageous amounts of money to people that speak Pashto. Currently the CIA lists two languages in Category 5 which is the highest level of importance. Pashto is number one and Korean is number two.Originally posted by faye View Postthat seems unusual to me. why are they teaching pashto in america?
australia has at least one uni teaching islamic banking.
Every military analyst and every CIA analyst says that the US is there for a long time. The interests there surpass trillions of dollars in losses and thousands of American soldiers. They'll stay there even if they have to pay every afghan "30,000/year as salary.

There's this website that's updated regularly on all kinds of research on Afghanistan, and it lists all the U.S. and other western universities that offer Pashto. Worth checking out. It's called The Afghan Analyst: An Online Resource for Researching Afghanistan.
