YouTube - Treatment of prisoner by Taliban and American

  • #2
    Good find!
That is the guy Jere Van Dyk whom I mentioned once here.
His book is idiotic. I read it when it first appeared and
was planning to write a rather scathing review, which i still haven't.

His writing and his demeanor give me the cr-r-e-e-ps.
Though he's more experienced than 99-100% of the other American journalists on Afghanistan today.

I still haven't figured out exactly why I dislike him so much.[usually someone is gay when I feel such a repulsion but i don't want to accuse anyone.]

Perhaps a clue lies in the caption about the Al-Jazeera.
    What a FAKE interviewer
I didn't like how he PRETENDED to be sympathetic to Mullah Zaeff.
But he was clearly antsy to end the interview...
Uncomfortable facts to hear, no doubt?

If it had been I, I would have just let former Amb. Zaeff talk on and on.

remember he was a diplomate and yet was arrested and handed over to us.
pakistan is full of surprises but we cant blame them cuz it was the dollar.

Good idea about having Mullah Zaeff to present the subject.
Who is more expert than he?

The Al-Jazeera guy was annoying to the nth degree.
No wonder i don't care for that station, now I can see, with rude people like that.
I so wish that Mullah Zaeff had been told by an Angel to hurry and flee so he would have escaped all that tragedy and everlasting trauma.

If anyone ever gets in a situation where logic says one thing but intuition guides another way, follow the intuition which seems contrary.

        This is the perfect example.
Who on earth would imagine not just any old attache, but an AMBASSADOR would be tricked and handed over like that.

If a voice says "FLEE" - we all have to heed it and not waste time debating.
        This is a dramatic example.

I like hearing Mullah Zaeff talk in his very typical Afghan accent.
It's very reminiscent of the Mujahideen's word choice and accents on words.
Like "BEGinning" - it takes me right back.

Afterthought: it's amazing he's even able to talk at all after his trials.
A lesser person would have collapsed completely.
No one thinks of this angle, taking it for granted he is clear minded and able to articulate. That's the blessing of Allah [swt] on him.

                ^ FOR SURE!!
I have long been wondering about them.
                I never liked them.

In fact, I happened to be around when one of the two, I think, founders gave a talk about how it got started.

I didn't have a feeling of real authenticity. He made a lot of jokes to keep the audience entertained, but did not say much of true interest.

So let's get the REAL STORY!

Arab Nationalist? I never thought of that.
I thought more a front operation pretending to be pro-Middle East but a tool of the same old bad guys who operate the media everywhere.

I formed that opinion noticing how they spoke of the Taliban EXACTLY the same way the US media does. There was no sympathy or soft corner for them.

About Mullah Zaeff's book, I had it tucked away because I was afraid the sad stories in it would affect me by osmosis.
But I see I tucked it so far away I can't find it now!

I was planning to read it this month.

It's not lightweight, either from the first chapter.
There is a lot of valuable background and history and seems quite objective so opponents of his cannot point a finger that it's slanted at all.
that was my impression. I ordered a copy because it's the kind of book you want to keep to refer back to.
