  • Italy to give MoPH $4.35m assistance

KABUL: Italy will provide the Afghan Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) with $4.35 million in assistance, a cabinet minister said on Saturday.
In this regard, a contract was signed between Finance Minister Dr. Omar Zakhelwal and Italian Ambassador to Afghanistan Claudio Glaentzer in Kabul.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Zakhelwal said the amount would be spent on the improvement of hospitals during next one year.
Acting health minister, Dr. Suraya Dalil who was also present at the signing ceremony, said the assistance would be used to purchase equipment for different hospitals. She added projects meant for capacity building of health workers would be also launched.
The acting minister said a building for the ambulance service in western Herat province would be reconstructed and five more ambulances would be purchased to ensure a 24 hours service for residents.
Without going into details, Dalil added clinics for child and mother care would be renovated and health workers trained in Herat.
For his part, Glaentzer promised Italy would continue to support Afghanistan's health sector in the future as well.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!
