  • Postpartum Depression Research Help

    Pakhairuna grano pukhtano,

I am currently conducting research on the experiences of Pashtun women who have suffered or are suffering from postnatal/perinatal/postpartum depression. There isn't much (if any) literature on this topic, nor much research or discussion, as I feel it is either never addressed, ignored, or simply brushed under the carpet. I know postpartum depression is a serious illness, and many women suffer in silence, not knowing where or whom to turn to due to the lack of support and knowledge on the illness.

Anyway, I will need a sampling of at least 50 Pashtun women who have experienced postpartum depression, and I was wondering if you guys here at PashtunForums could help. (I am trying to reach out to as many Pashtun portals/outlets that I possibly can, as it has been very difficult to find and recruit Pashtun women specifically who are suffering from PPD.) The research has also been approved through the Research Ethics Board (REB) at my university, so before any study begins, I will be sending out consent letters requiring signatures, etc.

I would like to ideally find these women in North America, as it would be easier for me to travel and meet them, but I am open to suggestions (I know a couple women who don't live in NA, but who have experienced PPD, and I intend to include their story/experiences). I have a bunch of questions prepared as well, so in case I don't get a chance to meet some of these women face-to-face, we could either Skype, speak over the phone, or via email communication. So, any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated here.

Also, if you don't feel comfortable addressing my inquiry here, please feel free to message me privately. My email is sesapzai@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from some of you soon!

    Warmest regards,
    Samar

i don't think that is something that is recognized in the afghan/pashtun society, let alone documented. you would have had a better chance of conducting a research if you were in an actual pashtun society. is it required of you to be doing it specifically on pashtun women??

i know someone with working background in the the ministry of public health of afghanistan. he once shared a report sort of a thing that he had written on the budgeting proposal which had lots of information on health statistics and what not. it may still be in my laptop but my laptop is being repaired and may be returned to me in the next two days..
