  • Laser eye treatment

I know there might not be any opticians here but since there's about 100000 Doctors/future Dr's on PF would be interesting to know the opinions you guys have on laser eye treatment for eyesight. Is it dangerous? have you had it done? is it true it only lasts a few years and then eventually when it wears off it will go worse than it initially was before surgery, does ones eyesight have to be really bad for it to work, how much does it cost etc

    thanks in advance

Not a doctor but I've heard good things about it I think its called lasik but before doing it they need to make sure your prescription doesn't change much

I had PRK done when I was around 23, at 28 I have to wear contacts again for 20/20 however it isn't as bad as before I had PRK. If you get the procedure at a young age, you're eyes can still change so plan for a 'touch up' in the future.

Yeah I only know one guy who had it done he hasn't had any problems with it so far I think..That was like a year ago and I think you can finance it at most place don't have to pay up front.

Although one thing I do know for sure, if you get it done you cant get into police for sure and maybe even army.

it depends on what you are going to get fixed and how old you are. I know for a fact that if your eyesight has been affected due to glaucoma, you will have unfavorable results and all that you mentioned would happen. My 54 year old friend went and they did he one eye only as they were not sure of the results. And then she was still not happy because it didn't improve much for her.
I wouldn't bother with it. Stick to your glasses unless you are on the verge of becoming legally blind.

I wouldn't do a laser eye surgery to be honest. Most of the times I have heard horror stories of surgeries going horribly wrong and some patients going blind.

I wouldn't reccomend it. Stick with a nice pair of glasses.
