Has anyone of you achieved to eat "yellow-red" dates....because of the amazing taste, your tongue feels dazed lool.It should be declared unlawful, maybe people will commit crimes to get these after they know its taste.

This is what i'm talking about

High achievement always takes place in the framework of high expectation.

Yes I love the yellow ones a lot, I tasted them once from a person from Maroc.
One of the pictures You posted however are not dates but Unab(jujuba), I am eating them exactly in this moment .

Unab(Jujuba) by the way is also very healthy!
It is famous in chinese medicine - it lowers blood pressure, sustains the kidneys, helps against cholesterol. Also it has many vitamins.
The leaves of Unab(Jujuba) are taken as tea, and if eaten fresh they inhibit the Sweet and Bitter tase of the tongue for some minutes.

Those yellow ones are NOT from the date family ?
I think I had them somewhere.
              Where are they grown?

That sounds intriguing what Arepavasht wrote about the chinese
medicine. Reminds me a lot of Goji Berries, originally from Mongolia and Tibet too, but co-opted, like the countries themselves by later communists, Chinese
              and otherwise.

Al-Arab pictures are amazing, of the gathering of the dates.

I had no notion there are so many dates on one tree as those clusters !

So what about the date production post-war, has it started to rebound
at all yet, if you know, al-Arab?

I hope so - a lot of the region is depending on those Iraqi dates to be
              exported.

I remember seeing in MANY MANY bazaars in Turkey packages of them
with "Made in Iraq" "from Iraq" with Arabic writing. Very popular, clearly,
              with regional people
It's interesting that the Iraqi dates haven't ever made it into the
              American market.

If Americans tasted them, they would never go for those trashy things
that are traditionally used for baking -- which is about all that dates are
known for here in North America.

I hope Iraq can quickly regain its market share of the date industry
and exceed all of its previous records soon. As well as start marketing
to Western countries as well. Seems like places like Germany would
be interested. They already have a lot of Turkish dried fruit there.

I think the north african dates ( From algeria and tunisia ) are the best ones.

In my opinion Iranian dates are the best.

i think all this crepe about this date being better than that is biased to personal taste. you might like sticky soft dates, chewy sticky, dry crispy crunchy yellow red, or even those indo/pak chawara date - rock hard and dried out.

algerian/tunisian dates, Bharati saeb are usually the cheapest packaged dates (with plastic fork that resembles a stick) available all over the west.

al-arab shabab, never come across dates labelled 'iraqi', and I spent a lot of time in KSA (from Jeddah to Hofuf) and the arab emirates, and I like dates. post pictures of the iraqi dates to see if i know what you are on about.

Yasmeen, again the dates from Iran are also at cheap end, usually soft. unless the quality iranian dates remain for domestic consumption.

You are right Torkham - all this its a question of personal likes/dislikes.
Why Iranian dates? Because I like soft dates. When I buy Iranian dates here - I always find inside what I expect. This doesn't happen when I try dates from other countries.

Ah, thanks for all this informative info, Al Arab --

NOW i am sure that those Barhi yellow ones are the ones I had.
They ARE incredible. I wish those were available at a local produce store !!!

I also have read that Iraq has the greatest number of date varieties on the
                        earth.

Personally, if I hear "Egyptian dates" or "saudi dates", I think automatically,
ICK, I wouldn't want to eat THOSE. They don't sound appealing, and
somehow don't have that special whatever-it-is that makes
                        Iraqi dates so special.
I believe it IS because of the Tigris and Euphates Rivers origin.

They sound - and ARE - truly healthy.

Whereas to me, the others are like cheap imitations, at the VERY best.
I actually woud never eat an Egyptian date - it has a bad feel to it.

And why ever eat a Saudi date ? There is nothing magical about them,
no ancient civilization behind them -- !!

I remember bringing home some of that Date Syrup like that pictured above.

What I seem to remember was buying the Iraqi dates from a large
almost like a bread loaf shape of dates, where the seller would slice off a large piece
                        and sell by weight.

Kind of like Halva is sold in Turkey and places like that.

Is that right? Am i recalling correctly how Iraqis buy them
                        for local use, i.e., when
                        not packaged for export?
